Default Transmission Vibration? M6

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I've just bought a 2002 SV8 and in 3rd and 5th at light throttle I can feel a very slight thunking? And I also have a bit of vibration though the cluch pedal? And, I seem to get a bit of nosie at slow speeds when RPM is low? Is this normal? I've never drivin a car with the Tremec 6-speed before so I'm hoping this is just me over thinking every little bump and squeek?

this is similar to "VYII Vibration" Thread posted recently.

I have VYII SS 6spdman and far out there have been noises coming from that box. I am disappointed in Holden engineering on the SS, hopefully the VE will be tighter all round.

Yes I have had similar problems and more, and through lack of cooperation from Holden Service departments all over Sydney, I have found all we can do is manage the vibrations/strange sounds. To expect a perfect car for under 80k or so is a big ask, so my advice is to seek help for 1 problem at a time, and not just from Holden. Maybe a friend mechanic, exhaust specialist, who knows. One of my sounds turned out to be a loose exhaust heat shield that comes looose every 20 000kms.

Holden service appears to cooperate with you on the surface, but you will find they keep playing down the problems as not there. By sticking with an issue, I got them to fix something recently but you have to push! And get to know the service manager.

Last time I couldn't even get my Gen3 to turn over, absolute dead in the water. Towed it to the dealership. Got angry with them. And just because it started first try the next morning they had the balls to suggest there was nothing wrong!!!!

Good luck, with some effort you will end up with a car you can enjoy, despite its drawbacks.

Matt =)
Oh and Suttons Roseberry Sydney is pretty good I reckon. Camden Holden is not so up to date...

Thanks that makes me feel a bit better about then! I'll have mention it to Holden next time I bring it in! I didn't think it was that big of deal just something you notice when you buy a newer car a expect it to be perfect!

yeah mate, my olds owned a new BMW540i V8 at one stage, and at 164 000 everything was tight and smooth. No rattles etc. I was expecting this from my 55000 SS. Was never going to get it!

On the positive, spend some time driving a holden V6 (VX, VY) every now and then which is what I do. I know that every time you get back in that beauty SV8 of yours, the GenIII will tickle you pink. I think the VY is a massive improvement over the VX especially in looks, but that Gen3 is sweet if you look after it!

Here's to you winning many a traffic-light-drag with your new SV8!
