Angry VY Tyre wear

Interested to hear from anyone with tyre wear probs. I have got 20,000 out of my original bridgestone RE40's. Which I thought was **** poor. Running at 40PSI and alligned balanced rotated every 5000ks. I drive it fairly hard but still!! Looking at replacing with a cheaper set, ($1000 a set)

20,000 ks for tyre is pretty average....there only designed to last bout that to 30,000 ks.....usually one year.

Default What's doing with 40PSI?

What the hell are you doing running your tyres at 40PSI?

They're only rated at 33 to 36. If you run them over inflated like that, and might I say grossly over inflated, you are gunna get poor tyre life. The tyre guys aren't going to care though, they'll go along with whatever theory has been sent your way about better traction and performance cos you'll have to buy more sets of tyres than the next guy.

Seriously running your tyres at 40PSI is awful bad it will cause extra wear on not only your tyres but your spine!!!, shocks and bushes. The COPS run their pursuit cars at 35PSI and they test thier cars every night chasing WRX's (I know they never chatch them ). With the type of tyres we run a 2-3PSI makes a huge difference in the way the tyres hold the ground or don't... Just remember if your tyres are too hard you'll risk skipping and you are really giving yourself less tyre to the road with an over inflated PSI, and less rubber is never good.

If your run your tyres around 35 you have the best of both worlds... Better wear and pretty good grip.

Good luck with it.

Default Oh yeah...

By the way, I drive my, ex chaser at 35 PSI, I drive it like I stole it, ALL THE TIME! It has RE040 aswell. I think the RE040 is being deleted, might be wrong. They are the tyres that were on it when I bought it, done almost 35,000 in just over 12 months and the tyres are still good, although sometimes it does feel like I found an extra 10kw at the rear wheels. But we all know that's just not true.

Ive had my VY tonner 6 months done 20000k's 40psi and rotated at service one wheel alignment and they are in pretty good condition. And at times driving for a few hours with half a tonne or more in the back. VX s had done 60000 before replacing any of the tyres. With a 38psi.

Nothing wrong with 40 psi. You will need that minimum so your fronts don't wear the outer edges. I only put 36 in the rear due to less weight. When I bought my new clubbie a couple of years ago the service manager said minimum 40 psi, preferably 42 psi. I've never had a problem with uneven wear. My S03's were almost shot at 15k so don't feel so bad. On my previous SS the B530's were gone at 25k. No need for such a grippy (soft) expensive tyre for everyday street use in my opinion so go something cheaper.

Default Tyres

I have a VYII S sedan, got it about december new,

Ive done 40,000 kms on the stock S03's and thers still plenty of tread left, probably 50%

I do about 60% highway (115km/h) 40% towing (100km/h with 1.4t on the ball), i run then at 40 front and 44 rear (the max pressure)

At $380 a tyre they arent the cheapest around nor the best around
