G'Day all. I finished the installation of my center console today.![]()
I have received so many questions and comments about this, that I thought that it warranted a new topic. The facia is custom made, including drink holders which are typically reserved for vehicles with climate control. The facia for the radio recess was fabricated at Strathfield Car Radio. I also had the steering wheel controls modified to transmit an infra-red signal so that it can be detected by the DVD Headunit. I have attached some pictures below - hope you all like the results.

Also, how did you get the cupholders in? Do you have to replace the entire surround for that? And where can I find the steering wheel remote converter? None of the local shops seem to have heard of it, which I find surprising.
Cheers for the comment! Yeah, you can buy pockets for Single DIN units at most good car stereo outlets. They also show up on eBay from time to time. The cupholders on the other hand are custom made. Give Nick at NVU a call on 0394661011. Will cost you $500-600. The steering wheel remote was specially ordered from Strathfield Car Radio - will cost you approx $300.Originally Posted by klaw81

Holy crap there's some good $$ just in the cup holders and converter.
I really like the white instrument cluster in the top one, is that out of ahigher model or is it custom?
That second install looks sweet.

awesome job. well done.
Anyone know if you can somehow replicate the silvery grey colour of the standard VY dash? I have a black single-din plate for my stereo, but I'd like it to look a little more factory if possible.
I got my binnacle housing sprayed at a local panel shop and they matched it really well.Originally Posted by klaw81
Yeah the colours can be matched easy.
Ive painted my facias in both my cars the same colour as the outside it looks great.
VY_Acclaim: Can you please tell me a little mroe about the 2 tachos/dials on your dash. I have just purchased a 03 VY Berlina Series II today and would like to have the same sort of thing. I've seen them in Clubby's etc. What can you have there (ie: volts, oil, etc?) and how easy is it to install them. But the main thing, where do i find some and how much would i be lookin at? Cheers bro.

The two HSV guages are Volts and Oil Pressure (VDO). You can buy the pod and put aftermarket guages in them instead if you wish (AutoMeter, Stewart Warner, etc). The install process is complex, but instructions are normally included if you buy the set (I got an auto-electrician to install mine). It involves pulling apart the console, threading wires here there and everywhere, and installing an oil sender. I bought mine on eBay for $550 a few months back, which included the pod, two guages, oil sender, wiring loom and instructions. Alternatively, you could source one from performance garages such as CAPA. Be sure to get the VY pod, as the VZ pod will not suit your vehicle. Cheers.Originally Posted by Exceler8r
