cruise control broken?

i was driving back from mt magnet last night using the cruise control and the car started going slower and then the cruise deactivated..

i reset it and it worked flawlessly for about 20 mins and then the cruise turned off altogether and i couldnt turn it back on. i turned the ignition off and then back on and then tried to turn the cruise back on but when i went to set the speed the lcd display showed 'cruise active' immediately followed by 'cruise off'

i took the cruise module out and it smells like somethings burning... surely this cant be normal !!??!

anyone had this happen? should i ditch the cruise module and get a new one or is there something little that im not thinking about that could cause these probs?

Certainly not normal, might be a short somewhere.
Is it still under warranty?

nah, warranty was up a couple of months ago... typical.
