This has been happening for a while.

Usually after a bit of a drive (1.5 - 2 hours constant driving) when slowing down or breaking there is a really bad cluncking sound coming from the rear of the car. REALLY bad, it's loud and it feels as if the bottom of the car is going to fall out from under it. It even happends when it hasnt been taken for a drive (just usual driving). When its really bad you can even feel the back of the car kind of jerking around.

Its been taken to holden countless times, it's been checked time and time again, and still the cause is unknown.

I know my description wasn't that great, but if anyone has experienced anything similar and knows what it is?

Its a VY SS 1, 5.7lt, 4 speed auto. Never been hit from behind.

Mine has a clunk in the diff when i change gears from D N and R and when i brake hard or accelerate hard, but not when im driving though im convinced its the diff.
Mine is still under warranty and has been to 2 dealerships and they reckon its within holden specs. So i anit getting mine fixed until the thing either shits itself or its not within holdens 'specs'

The clunk in N D R changes is apparently normal, I've been told too. I has the fully synthetic diff oil in and it did reduce chatter, but the clunk is a pain.

sounds like LSD chatter
when the diff is warm & you are moving slowly turning a bit is it more noticeable?
the fix is to change the oil, pinion seal & put an additive in the oil.

Yep! that sounds like the thing! It happends whenever you slow down, breaking or not, and is clearly more noticable when turning a bit.

So oil change, pinion seal? (whats that?), and an additive in the oil. Will have to tell him.

Thanks doc!!
