Question Modification

Is it worth it to start changing the cam as I have been told this will increase power as I have the back exhaust from cats back done and i am in the process of getting new high flow cat and extracters,is there any others,( that wont cost thousands but more like hundred )besides the ,supercharge ,turbo road,a little to much money,Any advise would be helpful as it is good to here a few ways first. The Rear exhaust has helped alittle (I can feel at top end speed)

you cna get the same results if not better by changing the rockers....raptor superchargers have done some testing and came up with about 20kw increases from changing to 1.97:1 ratio roller rockers.Raptor Superchargers Project Car VY

Cheers,I am new to this modifiying game and have my car booked in for some extracters now ,with a dyno run before with the standard and only the 2.5 from cats back and I just serviced on the week end so I am now just getting the rest of the money together in time for appointment.I am then going to get a cold air induction kit and later dyno ,just out of quriosity. What is the usual for this motor.Rear Wheel KW?

I would have expected a drop in power of about 30% at the rear wheels, making it closer to 110kw (v6 I assume?).

Can you let me know what dyno figures you get at each stage of the upgrade, as I am planning a very similar upgrade (exhaust, cats, rockers etc).

I haven't run my car on the dyno for a while now (too busy buying real stuff) but my car made 130rwkw with cat back and air filter and then I did headers, 1.8 roller rockers, cold air intake and twin tb and it made 140rwkw untuned. Since then I've put standard sized throttle bodies on, as the old ones were slightly too large. Will be running on the dyno again in the coming months but it has made a healthy gain. All up parts have cost about 2500 plus labor (another 2500) All up it's worked out to about 30% more power at the wheels than standard and still hasn't been tuned. On paper my current package all tuned should be good for around 210rwhp. Enough to make the little na v6 scare some v8's.

The vu/vt to vy seem to make around 120-125rwkw standard. Most I've seen have been nearly identical at 171rwhp. Auto may be less though as these figures came from manual cars.

At the wheels! No way they are only 152kw at the flywheel, then you have to allow for drive train loss.

VYClubby,

I'm just giving examples of cars here in town. A vu manual ute made 171hp @ wheels(129kw), mine made 174hp @ wheels(132kw). Auto's may be less as as I have already stated. Can't argue with dyno figures can you? I think there is a black manual vu ute with vy front on this forum that made 171hp @ wheels also.
