What is the build date?
I thought the series 2 came out in early '04 in which case yours is a series one.
I could be wrong but...

Series 2 vy execs have the chrome strip on the boot...

My dads vy is 03 and its a series 1.

If they sold it to you as a series 2 you should go back and complain (make sure it is series 1 though. I think if its before June or July [always get mixed up with those two months!] 03 its series 1) because theyve sold you something different to what they told you you were buying... Get some free stuff, petrol or something.

Was it from a car yard or private? I think a car yard would be a little more worried if you complained... They'd give you money back/free stuff or you go to VCAT or something like that to dispute it... OR you go to today tonight or ACA... I hate those shows, but they love stories like that...

Just go back and see what they can do for you... As long as you have proof they sold it to you as a series 2 (eg. On the contract)

Good luck let us know how it works out

I believe the build dates for the series II start in Aug 03,you probably already know where to find the build date on the chassis plate?
an excellent site is: http://www.users.on.net/~nweber/commodore/vy/index.html
as stated on this site:-
"Major changes introduced with the Series II include: A new high-output GEN III 5.7 litre V8 engine, producing peak power of 245kW @ 5,600rpm, is now specified on Commodore SS sedan, SS Ute, and SV8. Holden Calais and Berlina models benefit from a GEN III V8 power boost to 235kW @ 5,200rpm. ECOTEC V6, Supercharged V6 and GEN III V8 powerplants are engineered to meet strict new emission level requirements. 245kW V8s gain additional frontal rigidity from a strut brace mounted to the strut towers and spanning the engine bay."

So it sounds like most of the changes are found under the hood. Also noticed the series II 'S' came out with 17 inch wheels as standard too (as opposed to the 16 inchers on myn )
If it has an earlier build date than Aug 03 then I would say that the dealer/car sales have mis-represented the car and so you should be entitled to some sort of deal. Here in NZ a dealer/car sales can get in a whole pile of do do's if the car isn't exactly the same as stated on the window card, don't know if it's the same for you guys??

& Sueme 82,the series 1 has cruise control and all windows are powered so I'm not sure where you'd heard that they hadn't and were only introduced on the series II??

i had the exact same problem with my recent VY Calais purchase, advertised as a series 2 but found out later it is a series 1. it is currently in the hands of consumer affairs and if no result from them then onto Vcat!

Well on the SS's its easy enough to tell from the front spoiler...

Directly in the front, and lower most sections of the spoiler, there are two horizontal strips in front of the radiator. On the Series 1's the upper strip was colour coded and the lower in Black... On the Series 2's they fixed that up and the upper is black, with the lower being colour coded!

Does anyone know if this applies to the Exec's, Acclaims, or S's

easiest way to tell whether it is a vyII is by checking the build plate. Production for series 2 began in july or august and were in showrooms just in time for the sydney motor show so early to mid september. if its pre august lets say, it will most likely be a series 1.

Also, the Vy's had series 2 badging didnt they? I mean... they can be taken off, but if its all stock usually they'd still be there... As well as the chrome strip along the boot.

Not sure if the hub-caps where different between series 1 and 2 on the vy exec.. I cant remember =/

Default The Sunglasses Holder!!!

Just looked at the series 2 brochure to see how they promoted it - even the Executive in the sunglasses holder. As per the brochure:
"Sunglass holder and rear reading lamps. Little things make a big difference; a sunglass holder between the visors places sunglasses within easy reach - new for the Executive series II".

Easiest way is as stated before, look for the build date. Anything pre-August 03 is a series 1.
