Default What a nice suprise

Well, the other day I recived a nice little suprise. I had asked the salesman at time of purchase a bunch of questions regarding the car and possible extras included. After specifically asking about the diff, he said, "nah, just a single, not slippy", which of course I took for not a LSD.

Whilst cleaning the brake dust off the inside of the wheels the other day, I thought, lets have a looksy, and to my delighted suprise, the salesman had made a mistake, my new baby is fitted with a limited slip diff!

Dont ya just love good suprises!

And you didn't even notice. Must really make a lot of difference to your driving experience. Or does that mean you can now go to Macca's a rip a fully sick skid?

Actually no, I didnt notice. I dont do burnouts (of any kind) and always thought it a tad odd that I can plant the foot with no T/C and it will just launch off the line. Now I know why.

As for how I found out, yup, the little metal tag on the diff, and also the white plastic sticker on the side.

I'm not a mechanic nor a car fanatic, so can someone please explain to me what the LSD actually does and what it looks like.

Cheers.

Basically, it when your car begins to have wheelspin, the LSD senses which wheel is spinning, and feeds the torque to the opposite wheel in order to counteract the wheelspin. As for IDing a slippy, I found out because of the metal tag, otherwise they look very much the same to the untrained eye.

Is someone able to post some pics of a LSD so I know what they look like to help determine if a car i wish to buy has it. I'm asuming LSD is a good thing right?

Cheers.
