Default Noise in front wheels

Hi all
I've had this problem ever since I bought my car.
I can hear this really deep rubbing sort of noise from under the front wheels when I just drive away. In the very first few seconds. Then that's it, I could be driving for the next 500 kms stopping at lights a hundred times, the noise doesn't re-occur. The moment I turn the ignition off and start again, I hear it again.
I took it to 3 different holden dealers and their mechanics came up with 5 different possible causes and fixed it. The last one I took to reckoned it was the ABS setting itself up at start up. I don't know whether to believe him or not as it was the same guy who on three occasions told me different causes.
checked with few blokes at work and their cars don't do that.
what can I do?

It does sound like a brake pad issue. How many k's has the car done? Maybe the brakes have gotten really hot and cooked the seals in the calipers so they don't pull the pads off the discs. As you drive it, the normal vibrations are enough to knock the pads away enough not to cause a noise. Before you drive off next time try pressing the brake pedal a couple of times to see if the noise changes or goes away.

The only way to check to see if the calipers are ok is to jack the wheels up, put your foot on the brake, release it then spin the wheels and see how free they are. If they are hard to move, the piston seals are shot or the slides are sticky. If they spin freely then that has ruled them out.

Angry Noise as you drive off

I have exactly the same problem. I have only owned my VY Calais 4 weeks and the noise (felt & sounds like a brake pad not releasing) happens only from start up. ie Start the car, drive back or forwards 20 metres or so, I hear the noise and thats it, not again until the next start up. I have tried many different things. (stop at lights, into Park, handbrake on, release, into drive, take off, still no noise, and only this morning took it to a Holden Dealer. They checked out all the suspension, no problems but they said the VY's had this issue with the ABS setting itself on start up and this could be the noise. Also said the VY's had a problem with the Power Steer hose vibrating and have had a new one manufactured about 18mths ago which recified this problem. Maybe I'll check out the P/S hose and replace. It is frustrating. I hate strange noises with a car.

Peter

My S2 VY has the same problem, mine comes from the front drivers side wheel. i have had holden have a look at it and they say that it is normal, they advised that it is just the ABS setting itself and is nothing to worry about.
