I have been thinking about the front grille of the VY Exec - a lot.
Its damn ugly, however due to my car being an Exec and not any type of S series, I dont want to mock it up to something its not.
So my idea is to take the current plastic front grille, and fabricate some chrome mesh over the front of it, with a join in the middle.
Has anyone got any ideas, past efforts, suggestions for design or materials etc?
I picked up the three chrome bar stick ons of ebay for 70 bucks they were easy and looked great added a little style,then I put a ss front bar on a got the chev grill any way sold the grill with the chrome still on it ,The chrome pieces were easy to install.![]()
Try this thread too - the pics of my modified Exec grille are towards the bottom.
SS grills
unlike sharebruz i really dont mind if my exec looks like something its not so i was wondering if anyone could help me to find an ss grille for the cheapest price. Ebay is very good for that kind of stuff but they only have the ss grilles with the chevy badge which is what i dont want. any help would be great
What about colour coding the grill? I like the one on ebay, I'd go for that.
An SS grille will not fit an Executive bumper at all, it's too small. Neither will the Chev grilles, for that matter. Your only options are to get a whole new S / SS front bar, or to make your own custom grille....hence my modified one.
<edit - photo added...my car is filthy>

that it looks great its just i dont have the skills or knowhow to be able to do a job like that. pm me if u can be stuffed, with instructions i know the silver mesh stuff is just something u'd buy in autobarn or sumthing. but how do i cut the slats out of the grille.
the other thing how much for an ss bodykit?
sorry to be a pain in the ass
Instructions are pretty simple - Remove the chrome badge so it doesn't get ruined, and cut the top and bottom slats out of the grille with a hacksaw. The slats are hollow so it will leave holes on the sides of the surround and the holden badge mount. File the rough edges and fill the holes with fiberglass resin (I used body filler but resin would be better). Sand everything back smooth, prime and do several coats of plastic paint. Cut out a piece of mesh to suit, screw it to the back of the grille and re-fit.
Mine took me about 6 hours of work using basic hand tools because I had to figure out how to do each step, but if i made another one it wouldn't take half that time. I still have plenty of paint and mesh left - if anyone wants me to make them one, I might consider it - for a suitable fee.
Rough costings on SS body kit parts are available on another current thread ($3k to spend).
