Default V6 extractors - Pacemaker vs Pro-Flo

Looking at Ebay, Pacemakers are $465 + $41 postage, while Pro-Flo are $280 including postage.

Big difference for the sake of a name!

Has anyone had a chance to compare these? Pacemaker specifically say they are tuned although I assume both are mild steel for that price.

It doesn't mention anything about warranty, most mild steel headers have 3 year warranty, if they don't cover theirs for at least 2 years, I'd give them a miss and go for a more recognised brand.

would neva go mild steel in headers as with the heat of the motor they are more likely to stuff up ur cat and they arent cheap stainless steel only infront of cats

Someone in an exhaust shop would have told you that. This was the common belief when cats first came out but in actual fact headers will break or split before they rust out. Stainless is always a good option as they retain the heat better and increase the flow. I have never run stainless extractors and never had a problem with cats. The cat itself will die on its own before the extractors will kill it, and you will probably replace them before they rust because they have broken.

Thanks everyone, I have invested my $280 to buy a pair and see how they go. The supplier confirmed they are tuned length and with my cat-back 2.5inch system, should give a noticeable improvement in power and sound.

I don't expect too much in power (until I install bigger ratio rockers, otrcai etc) although I am keen to find out how it sounds.

How much warranty do they have? May not be an issue but sometimes extractors on EFI cars crack, you want to be covered.

Can confirm that adding extractors and exhaust system to this car will make nearly no difference with stock motor, but it is the right thing to do if you got big plans for later

Thanks Raptor, pretty much what I expect.

I received them yesterday (ordered Friday via Ebay). They at least look good, with all the threaded holes ready for the O2 sensors etc.

The supplier assures me they are tuned length although I don't expect much. I plan to put them in on the weekend as well as the RedBack system (I have been running the standard system for the last 12 months).

Watch out for it in the garage section - I will post some photo's for those interested in doing it themselves.

PS. No sign of an invoice or warranty....

If each primary pipe is the same length then they are tuned, if on looks shorter than the rest, they aren't, they are interference.

The job was pretty easy and I am very happy with the sound of them. I have never posted any sound files but will give it a try soon. Check out my thread in the V6 development section (although I should have put it in the "how to" section).

Thanks, will do.

I have had the rear muffler removed on my VY-S, and added a straight-thru to the factory tip (I like the stocky look) and it sounds awesome... a lil' bit more oomph down low too. My mechanic recommends that I just add the extractors now, not to worry about the rest of the system at all. If you reckon that the 'Pro-flo' ones you have installed are the go then ill get them.
