I'm wondering if anyone has any advise for me in regards to a VY II S I have looked at. I like the car it's in awsome condition and I am interested in buying it, It's an 04 with 16,000 km. When we took it for a test drive (for about 5-10mins) with power button on & off, traction control on & off only up to about 110km per hour, we swapped drivers & both could smell something a bit odd. Its not a hot oil/ engine type of smell, and not an electrical smell either, but just kindda hot. We had the owner with us so didn't investigate untill we got back to the house, & the smell was gone. We checked the oil & it seemed full, but quite new. (the car is not driven on a daily basis as they have more than one car) The brakes were a little squeaky but I'm not sure if the smell was from the brakes either.
Any help would be great!

Maybe fluids. He could have recently topped up fluids (brake, steering etc). Oil should look fairly good, if it has been serviced correctly it should have only just (around 1000k's ago) had it's oil changed. Was the fan on at all? VY's seem to have an odd smell that can come out of the fan from time to time (more musty than anything) but if there air was on "fresh" not recirculate, it could have been that.
Also, is it charged?
Thanks for your reply, the car is not charged, and funny you should mention the air, as the first time we went in it my fiance thought he smelt something when the owner took us for a drive & put the air on the windscreen, although I didn't notice it. The owner has had the last service done, & the owner told us the day before we drove it the wheel aligment had been done.
I think maybe soem fluid has been spilt or something? I just want to be sure about the car. I am planning on an RACV check on any private car that I buy anyway.
Thanks
I have same thing, temp doesnt vary too often, but the 6 smells like oil with no visible leaks, smells like hot oil ... I can't quite pin it, does any one know why ?
Not quite a datsun..
If you are worried get a proper inspection before purchasing.
depending on where you live there are many inspection agencies.
The best by far is State Roads.com.au car / vehicle inspection service they are more than worth the money and even test paint thickness over the car to tell you what panels have been resprayed etc.
They are only in limited locations though.. check the website for details.
I have used them 3 times.. awesome![]()
Not too sure about the problem but for an 04 model, 16,000kms is very low. Make sure the service books look legit and engine numbers etc match up.
