    Default Service Interval

I don't do too many k's in my VY SS, approximately 10,000-12,000 per year.

The service interval according to Holden is every 10,000 km or 6 months.

I've been sticking to the 10,000 km service religiously, but it may take 9-12 months to get there. Do you guys reckon this is detrimental to anything? Or is Holden just trying to make money from servicing?

...Bugger getting it serviced every 6 months if its only done 5000 km's!!

Time affects oil just as much as kms, I do mine every 10 000kms or 6 months whichever comes first. Do it every 6 months at least if you don't do that many k's.

Doing short runs is not good for the car, more so in the winter, as the engine doesn't get fully warmed up. You get a build up of condensation in your exhaust system. (You often see it on older granny cars, where they only go to the supermarket and back once a week). I would suggest a service every 6 months even though you aren't doing that many KM.

    Default Service Intervals

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Holden extended the service interval to 15,000km/9 months for the VZ/VE models?

It's the same oil, so the oil life is not a problem.

Condensation can be if you do short trips. However, provided you do one freeway trip of about 30km once a week to clean out the condensation, that should not be a problem.

Nevertheless, oil does not cost much. I would change the oil at six months if there was any doubt.

I'd say keep doing what you're doing.

From memory V6 9 months, V8 6 months interval for the VY series.

I also am lucky to do 10,000km /year (actually it is 45,000kms @ almost 4.5 years!). I have changed oil/filter every 9 months as per the service book, although I do the servicing myself which saves a lot of money.

Yeah, I don't do short runs though.

If anything, I might just change the oil myself every 6 months and get it serviced every 10,000 km.

Scheduled service for the VZ is 15,000 km or 12 months. I change my oil and filter every 6 months as I only average about 10k per year.

VZ and VE V8s have a higher oil capacity so they could stretch out the service time by 3 months.More oil capacity = longer service times.
Same thing happened with the V6,VTs and VXs hold 4.8 litres and had a six month service interval,VYs hold about 5.6 litres (bigger sump) and had a 9 month service interval.
