My S2 VY has done just over 55000kms and has got a very noisy idler pullythat is going to be fixed under waranty on wednesday, this milage seems a bit low for one to fail being as my old VT wagon had 125000kms on the clock before any of them started to go.
Has anyone else had problems with noisy pully's? and at what mileage.
Have the same problem with my VY, and started around the same milage. Had the car back to the dealer 3 times to have it fixed, but all they seem to be able to do is a quick fix, with the noise returning after 500 Ks or so. Now, at 82000Ks I'm getting a burning rubber smell coming from the engine bay, but am really hesitant to go back to the dealer for them to essentially do nothing to fix this long term. If you come across a solution feel free to share the info.

Got my car back on Thursday afternoon and found that they had replaced the noisy pully, checked the other ones for wear and put on a brand new S belt. Also changed my brake disks on all 4 wheels due to them being warped. Boy am i glad its still under warranty otherwise i would have been looking at a $2000+ billfor a car i only bought 1 1/2 - 2 months ago.
These ones had warped it apears that the pevious owner drove arround with the the foot brake on all the time so they had gotten to hot an warped enough to warrent replacing them rather than getting them skimmed. when going arround you could see the amount of movement in the front disks. when mesured they were out by upto 5mm.
the disks were all the right thickness but the pads were pretty much worn out and according to holdens records they were the second set put on the car since new.
wen you looked at the disk go round you could see the center gap between the disks change from side to side so they were deffinatly warped.
Well, Idler pulleys on my old VS were changed at 80,000...
While my new VYII SS had one of the idler pulleys replaced at 30,000... It appears they have chosen a cheap bearing supplier, and possibly get some bruneling if they sit in the warehouse for too long!
its common for the idle pulley to go.
I got it replaced under warranty 6000+kms ago only for the same pully to be playing up again but of course my VY is now out of warranty.
If they replaced it under warranty just under 6000km ago, then it should still be covered by the spare parts warranty of 2 years/50000 kms... Go back to the dealer with that one!
Ill see if i can tomorrow, it will be intresting to see what they say.
if you wash your engine and get water over the pullys, thatll do it

can the idler pulley noise sound like a lifter type tappety noise on the gen3's? my belts looking like it needs to be replaced soon, looking a little worn, its done 150,000km's was going to replace it anyway when i do the belt, but just wondering

Just wanted to know if you found out what that burning rubber smell was or anybody else.
