People ......... Raptor needs advice
I am thinking of changing all the speakers in the VY for something better, thinking FUSION brand at this point in time.
What are the speaker sizes in the VY? Need to know for when I go to buy.
Of course I could just roll down to the local carsound joint and get this info but also like to see what people have to say from experience.
At this point I am not thinking about changing any of the other components, is that a problem?

i wouldnt go anything else but alpine but the problem i see that ur going to have is that the standard head unit isnt going to put out enough thump to power good speakers to the max anyways
please correct me if im wrong
let us know what u go for
The standard speaker size is 6", however you can squeeze 6.5" in there if you modify (cut/file) that plastic plinth which they are screwed into. I would get splits for the front, that way you can replace the factory tweeter as well (located in the top corner of the dashboard, next to the windscreen).
You should still get better sound with just speakers alone, although you wont get the best from the new speakers without an amp.
Yep, getting the message on an amp. Is that 6" round I take it?

Hi Raptorsc, yes they have six inh round speakers, most 6inch should fit fine.
However I have a question for you guys, When modifying to fit 6.5inch speaker, what is the best way of modifying the speaker bracket in the door to fit.
I had a problem with a friends VS once and after filling the plastic etc it tended to vibrate a little, I am hoping its not the same for the VY/VZ? Is there dampening or sealant that is good to use?
I am looking at soundstream tarantula 6.5" splits for the front of my VZ, has anyone had experience with these speakers or do you have any suggestions of brands etc around $250 - $300 mark?? (PS they will be amped)
Cheers guys
fusion isnt to bad if your looking @ running of a head deck ect but as posted if you want and decent sound then you will be looking at an ampi have fusion amps and subs in my car but i use sony xplod splits up front with just the factory rear speakers runnin of the fac head deck. if your going to get an amp then its all personal choice (or how big your wallet is lol) but i would look at the jl splits for around $300 there pretty good.
Yep, definitely 6" round.
I just used a dremel to grind away at the surface. I'm sure you could achieve the same thing by hand using a file. I only had to grind away about 3mm all round to get my 6.5's to fit. That was for Jaycar 6.5's anyway - other brands may be different.
BTW, doing this means you lose the plastic which covers the speaker cone/magnet to stop it from getting damp. I figured that doesn't matter since the amount of water that actually gets in there is minimal (a drop or two at worst) and that the Jaycar speakers have Kevlar cones. I've had them in there for about two years now without any problems, however some people in this situation still like to cover the back of their speakers with a sheet of plastic or equivalent to stop them getting damp.
Thanks, I have a soundstream lil wonder 2.40 amp spare which will be sufficiant to run the front splits 125Watt RMS x2, I am replacing this amp previously running my sub for a monoblock.
I might have a look into JL Audio aslo for the splits because I have heard they are quite good.
I will have a look at a few demo boards and reviews before my purchase and post how they turn out once installed.
no matter wat speakers u get ur not gunna get full potential from the jus running em off the headunit u need an amp-although the will sound better then stock ones i guarentee u that---i have JL speakers there really clean and crisp but thats my choice and there a bit expensive for some1 on a budget i guess
MY VY SV8 HBD http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...y-sv8-hbd.html
HI guys. I own a Vz and I've just replaced factory speakers with aftermarket ones....problem is that now I have no sound at all. Could someone with a bit of knowledge in this department give some advise please. I would have posted this under VZ, but could'nt find an appropriate thread. Any help would be great.Thanx
Probably something very obvious.......
Wires hooked up wrong?
I run pioneer in my vy, splits in the front and 6 x 9 in the parcel shelf.I still had the stock unit in when i changed them and found it made a little bit of difference.I changed the factory deck with a pioneer deck and added an amp and it is excellent, would certainly recommend it.
When you added the pioneer deck did you lose the control functions from the steering wheel? And also the other information that normally shows on the dash?

There are adapter cables available for certain brands, namely Bluepoint and Clarion, that allow you to keep steering controls. Some after market adapters can cover other brands. This is covered a bit in the audio thread.
You can get the CAT 09 which will allow you to use the steering wheel controls but you can't keep the display on the dash.
It's something i thought about for a while cause i wanted to keep the display but since putting it in i haven't bothered and found it doesn't worry me too much.
hey does any one no how to change the spilts in the vy is it hard or time consuming
Thanks
I just changed my splits over in my vz. and yes its very time consuming if after every screw you have a beverage and a ciggie. its easy to do and has taken me a few hours. definatly something you can do yourself.
Clarion SRS1686 - $299
I am currently leaning towards 6" round splits for the front and 6" round 2 way (I think) for the rear.
Focal, JBL, Pioneer, Fusion and Alpine are brands I have checked out so far, the Focal looked decent, being quoted fitted prices around $650
Any further advice?

Go 6 x 9 in the rear shelf, sounds excellent.
I did all my fitting and it really is quite easy, just time consuming but you'll save quite a bit from doing it yourself.
