The standard shocks will work fine, but on the rear it is advisable to use shortened shocks to trap the springs.

Actually the rear shocks in a wagon are shorter than a sedan so they are fine. Alot of people intsall wagon shocks in their sedans. Also does an Acclaim have FE2? If so that is fine also. As for how hard it is to do. I do mine in 2 hours in my driveway. I change springs for the drags. On the Street Commodores website in the how to section I have made a thread including pics on how to do it.

Wagon shocks are shorter than a sedan but when lowering you are still going lower than the standard spring so there is still the risk that they will pop out. It all depends on how low you go though.

The wagon springs are fine for Superlows. What springs are you fitting? Seeing as you said 50mm I am guessing Superlows so it will be fine.

Do the same rules apply for a sedan - Calais series 2? Or is it adisable to replace shocks at same time?

What is the average lifespan of a set of shocks? my car has 90k on it.

You don't need to replace the shocks, however at 90K the factory ones are getting a little tired and it would be good to replace them if you can afford it.

According to most shock manufacturers, the effective life of a shock is around 40 000kms, so they would say replace them.

i have been told that on the vz's that they have camber adjustment. true or false? i have a wgon too and want to lower it but am worried that the tyres will scrub out far too quickly as i have 19's on it. i have been looking at pedders suspension for it and was quoted around 700 for it to be fitted but not sure what was actually getting done. is this a reasonable quote?

Short shocks are a good idea, especially if you use king springs. Monroe make a great set of short shocks and struts for ute, sedan and wagon. They take some of the sharpness out of the king springs ride and up the handling tenfold

The characteristics of the monroe short struts for the front will help with the uber common occurance of the bearings failing as they have different bump and rebound to the normal OEM shocks. for the shocks and struts alone your looking at just under 400 delievered to your house, more if you go throught the workshops

The difference is shocks which are non-adjustable are made to travel certain distances with a certain springload. OEM shocks work best at there original ride height with the original springs, and ofcourse shorter shocks work best in low situations.

    Easy way to put it

OEM shocks, Low Spring: Shock moves between 50 to 100% of its original travel, Thus only giving half the effect of its design (bump rebound settings etc)
Low Shocks, Low Springs: Shock moves its entire 100% of travel, thus using the full effect of its deisgn (bump rebound settings etc)
