The nulon synthetic is available in either 10w40 and 15w50. I'm using the 10w40 in my L67. Good stuff.

I don't have a gen3 but the L67 is dead quiet both hot and cold with Nulon.

how much is this nulon fully senthetic?, i used the new nulon semi synthetic 10w-30 in my gen3, seemed good to me, a little bit noisy at start up but has been like that since i bought it and have been told by a few ppl its acceptable for a gen3 all have the same noise, once it warms up its fine, gotta change my oil this week, looking at the mobil one super synthetic, but its $90 for 5liters, so bought $110 by the time i get 6 liters of it.
the nulons is a lot cheaper and comes in a 6liter container.

    Who is most people?

As i said, talk to any decent performance workshop they will use 10w 60, talk to any oil specialist who is also an LS1 enthusiast, they will say the same thing.

People use 10w 30 because holden say so. I used to have oil samples taken every 2000km in my last job(didnt cost a thing) and the 10w 60 always rated better.

But hey, what do i know, forget i said anything

I agree with minux here- a heavier weight oil vs something as light as w30 the heavier (providing they are both quality oils) will will out.

Oil engineer I know visited Holden when they first started specifying w30 weight oil. He said to the techs that this is going to kill motors, they agreed but said that's what they are told to specify, so they do.

Holden when they first started specifying this weight had all sorts of well known problems, from big ends to mains, ring seal and other friction related issues. There were a lot of warranty calls, and rebuilt GEN III's.

I suggest you reconsider the use of w30 oil

Anything with an end rating of 50 or 60 i believe suits the commodores. The start number, 5-10-15-20-25 doesnt really matter, that should only change if your buring oil on startup. I think Holden specify these thinner oils due to the fact that you get better economy out of it which is what i have witnessed with a thinner oil.

    Default Oil Change....

Just Changed my Oil and Filter....
Noticed a bit of a lifter type Rattle coming from engine at the Traffic Lights this morning, and thought, 2500km...what the hell.... I used Nulon 10/40 syn last change, and at the time I bought 2 6ltr bottles coz they were on special..., so.....

Today I used Nulon 10/40 Full Synthetic and Ryco filter, Just been down the street, and Rattle sound has gone...... Oil was Black as, so it was doin it's job cleaning!! I think Nulon is good Oil, but maybe can't last the distance......I normally change it anywhere before 5000k's, but 2500 is a bit soon, and it was real Black, Castrol Edge was never this dark!!
