The time has come for a tow bar to spoil the clean lines of the back end of my VY II.
What sort of price were these as a factory fitted item on new cars?
What sort of price should I expect from installers for aftermarket items? I'm figuring $270-350 for bar and install including plug and wiring. Fair? Whats it cost some of you others to do this?
I'm not looking for big numbers towing, mainly bikes and the odd lightly loaded trailer/tinny for dump trips and holidays.

Oh the wonderful things I could do to my car...
if I had more money, no kids, no wife, no second car, no job, no rent, nowhere to be, didnt need food, didnt need beer...damn.
My $0.02
i pulled mine off but am putting it back on, it is easy as to do not to sure about the wiring but would imagine not to hard as you would only have to tap into the existing wires,
as for prices not to sure give holden a buzz to get a price then try a few other place like arb, tjm, kaymar or haymen reece to get their price on a bar.
I got mine through the dealer and from memory it cost around the $400-$500 mark. That included all trailer lights wiring, etc. I don't know if holden has different grade ones but mine pulls up to 3T i think. I just use it to pull the boat though.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
The standard capacity bar which can tow up tp 1200kgs is around the $270-$300 mark, the heavy duty Reece style 2100kgs is around $450-$500. There is a towbar wiring harness plug on the RHS behind the carpet near the tail light. You can either buy a genuine harness and plug it in, or tap into the wires on the plug.

My old man took the 1200kg off his VY and got a Hayman Reece fitted. I got the thing fitted with the addition of a genuine clip harness for $75. Another mob quoted $165.
Should you get the heavier capacity bars ie 2100kg consider the ext oil cooler, exhaust heat shield and electric trailer brakes.
Subsiste Sermonem Statim
With those figures, I might keep my eye out for a cheap stock item someone might be offloading. I'm only going to be using it for pushies, the occasional trailer for trips away or carting stuff about. Wont be anything like a tonne, so the 1200kg standard will do me.
Thanks.
