I am considering putting a Clubby kit on my berlina then fully debadging her. I have mixed thoughts. 1 says other people will think your a poser but the other says you like the clubby look, go for it.
i know of a few people that have put this kit on there car and have been given full praise. Like these guys
What do you guys think.

I'm going to be totally honest with you, im not a fan of Clubsport or any other HSV bodykits on non HSV cars. If I was you I would leave it the way it is except for the Chev badges, but this is my opinion and it is your car after all so do what you like with it.
ss kit it yes, clubby .. nah never looks perfect

Your car, do what you like. If it is praise you want from other people then your car won't really be a reflection of what you like then will it?
not to kit.
ss if u want one but steer clear of the clubby. debadge yes, here is my debadge thread if ur looking;

no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
if done right, not a cheapy ebay kit and its painted properly.
I had a hsv kit on my vy and had people coming up to me all the time saying nice gts etc and i would tell em its not. people that know hsv's can tell its not geniune and think your a wanker and i excepted that it because it wasnt a hsv.
unless its an 8, has big brakes and the headlights, no matter how hard you try it will never be a hsv. i never claimed mine was a hsv and never wanted to.
Mine was silver and debaged with perfect suited wheels (not poopy chrome)
By all means throw a kit on, but PLZ just make sure its done right/tastefully and prepared to cop **** about it from time to time.
I wouldn't, i hate bodykits though so it's a biased opinion.
I just think mock ups always look tacky. My 2 cents...
its not praise from others i want, its what i want but i don't want the majority of people thinking im a @#$%head just because i have a kit. At first i wanted an SS or a clubby kit but chose the clubby because i really like its look. Regardless of which kit it was, i wanted one of them but then i noticed people bagging the kits so i began to have second thoughts.
I was also put off by the price that ssv was selling them for painted and fitted.
What's wrong with the eBay ones? My family is good mates with a fitter and painter and we get our stuff done cheap because my dad is a sparky and does all his electrical work.
happy new year everyone!!!!!!

do they break easily or what? Do you or did you have any experience with one or are you just guessing because of there price?

I haven't brought one myself but a close friend of mine has. The kit was made of extremely thin material and was very flimsy, neither the front nor rear bar were anywhere near close to fitting and it took a month of stuffing around to get the seller to finally send the thing. It ended up costing him more to get that kit to work than it would have to buy one from a reputable seller and have it fitted.
EDIT: I just thought that I should add that the kit wasn't for a VY it was for a VS
I would never give my opinion on the quality of anything unless I have had personal experience with the item, A close trusted friend of mine has had experience with it, Or a trustworthy person whether it be on this forum or a friend of a friend has had experience with it and I think that you will find that most people on this forum are the same.

ok thanks for your advice. I will ask other people that have bought an eBay kit and see how they like it. I hope its alright.
I have made up my mind and am going to go on 1: finance and 2: if I want it, not caring if people think im a poser or anything. im going to give it a 2 1/2" lukey cat back so it wont sound stock.. im sure some people will think ricer but as most people here say.. its your car, do what you like.
I'll fit it with VY GTS wheels and lower it. when money allows put a monaro hood on her too. My car will be MY car and no matter what i'll always love her![]()

Mate do not buy an ebay kit. You get what you pay for. The fibreglass will be thin, and it will be weak and half the time its a poor fit also.
Moulds are not cheap, and these ebay sellers are generally backyard or tiny dodgy store sellers who do not put the effort or quality into their products...Thats why they only sell on Ebay. If they have an actual store and are a REAL business, then check out the real business before purchasing on ebay. If they dont, just ask yourself why.
The link with that ebay kit in the first post is a decent fit, but the fibreglass would still be thin and not a great quality especially at that price and I daresay the fibreglass will warp over time and he will find paint cracking on the bumpers. Also the sideskirts don't look right to me and the front bar seems off in the grill, with the right side not lining up with the bonnet properly. But thats getting pretty picky.
I wouldn't kit. Why pretend to be something your not? Spend your money on performance mods. Give yourself big brakes and a quick engine. Anyone can throw a kit on the car, do something against the grain and actually make the car fast then maybe a kit.

Who cares what others think. Just do it if you want it.
Im not pretending to have a clubby. i just like the look of it. I know that it wont be a clubby ever so in my mind im no poser.
from the responses i doubt i will get an eBay kit or a kit at all because they aren't cheap. minux, you do have a good point about the performance mods and i think thats what i'll do since the kit is so expensive.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what brakes to replace stock ones with?

look at some vt onwards hsv brakes or maybe some vz ss brakes
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
Go with something like this for brakes
VT- VZ HSV BRAKE KIT - eBay Other V8 Parts, V8 Parts, Turbo, Performance Parts, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 31-Jan-08 18:00:05 AEDST)
Glad your going this way, kit can be done any time, drop a raptor charger in, then do the kit and you may just surprise a few of us HSV owners![]()

ok i might have a look at buying some of those brakes a bit later on when the cash starts to flow in.
I want a s/c but im under 25 and no way can afford it.![]()

Hey Mate
If your under 25 start with mods like exaust, extractors, high ratio rockers, induction kit and a LSD diff etc, then later on if you want to put a S/C on your all set... though its your car, you can do what you want, though i thought would give you some ideas though....
cheers mate. here's what i had in mind.
YT 1.95:1 Rockers
K&N filter
Big Mouth CAI
Re-tint
Lower with Kings (ssl rear, sl fronts)
Lukey 2 1/2" cat back
Pacemaker headers
eventually HSV brakes too

This might throw you, but I'm over 55 years of age, my Berlina is Martini (like yours, I think) and I would love to make it look like your car. I'm not interested in improving the performance, the brakes, the comfort levels, just the appearance.
I'm not in the least bit interested in what others think of the car. At my age, I'm way past the "wanker" stage - I did all my tyre frying thirty years ago - subdued travel is my go. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the appearance of a modified vehicle that is tastefully and well executed, stylish and looks "different" from the multitude of other Martini VY's running around.
By your criteria, I would be unoriginal - a copycat, if you like. I wouldn't be doing anything original to coin your phrase. But I'd do it anyway, and be convinced that your opinion, respect it as I might, was wrong.
I don't mean this to be an argumentative post. Rather, it's a reinforcement of my view that we are all individuals, free to do what we please (within the law), and should recognise each other's likes and dislikes and the right to exercise our individuality. If we like something that someone else likes, then surely imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

By all means do what you like to your car, done tastefully any car can look nice. I guess what annoys me is when people go and put all the badges etc on their V6 mockup. The kits themselves don't bother me, i just laugh seeing the 300 badges on a stock V6 that is exhausted.

no kit, im a person that just likes them dumped, tint windows, nice set of rims and exhaust

good list! i wouldnt bother with the big mouth thou. if your plan is superchagring there no need for it. plus the extra .9kw it gives...
retint = $120 for removal + $395 for midnight express. thats how much mine cost.
go some decent cats aswell. you want that supercharger to breeth!![]()
