    Default Electrically operated passenger seat

I am in the process of fitting electric lift and tilt motors to the passenger seat of my Berlina. The VY Calais had 8 way power operation for both front seats, while the Berlina only had the normal 4 way seat similar to Execs and Acclaims.

I'm not going to try to updated both front seats to Calais standard - it would cost too much, but my wife, who is a fair bit shorter than me, likes to elevate the passenger seat, claiming that the standard height setting is too low.

I'm wondering if any VY Berlina owner can tell me if the power feed for the electric passenger seat is fitted to the Berlina wiring loom. I've lifted the seat mounting covers and sill plates on both sides to get a feeling for the way it's done, but there doesn't appear to be a feed for the left side anywhere. I suspect I might have to run a separate feed across the floor under the carpet, from the driver's seat feed to the passenger seat.

Just for general information, I am using the electric base from a VT executive and I can tell you, the number of changes made between VT and VY in the seat mounting setup, seat belt pre-tensioner mounting bracket, slide adjuster etc is enormous. It seems that no two parts are interchangeable between the two and as a result, the work I have had to do so far is much more than I imagined. Should have it working soon, though.

Any advice re power feeds would be appreciated.

    Regards

    pj

    Default It works!

And the other half is happy. It's taken a lot more work than I imagined, and if I did it again, I would definitely start with a VY drivers seat rather than a VT, but this morning, the wiring was hooked up and the seat ups, downs and tilts, just like the driver's side.

The trim around the base is an HSV part, as Holden didn't offer the four way seat as a standard fitment on any of the VY/VZ models. HSV did, however, so the finished job looks just like a mirror image of the driver's seat, as if it came that way from the factory.

    Regards

Was the wiring already there or did you have to tap into something there. I have VY Calais front seats to put into a VY Berlina. The Berlina seats only have electric drivers seat but manual passenger as you know. Any help would much appriciated.

    Hi there
I just finished putting in a set a of VY2 Calais front seats in my VY2 Berlina. The passenger seat works fine but the drivers does not. Any help would be appreciated. The Berlina seat plug has 3 wires. I know which wires are the power and the earth but I don't know where the other wire is supposed to go.

    Hi Dan

Is the third wire a very thin one, black with a white trace? If so, it hooks up to the seat belt alarm, running from the driver's seat belt buckle mounting on the left hand side of the seat. The wiring should already be there on the seat belt pre-tensioner just needing to be connected to your third wire.

Ok, my apologies. It's been a while since I did my seat - thinking back now, I do recall the colours you mentioned. As long as that wire is much thinner than the other two, it still connects as I stated earlier.

Sorry to annoy you again but which wire on the seatbelt tensioner does it have to tap into as there is 3 wires. Two of them go down to the seat belt tensioner plug down near the airbag plug and one plugs into another in the middle of the seat.

    Dan

I'll try to look under the seat tomorrow to see where I ran the wiring. I might have this stuffed up - as I said, it's been a while and the white/black thin wire still sticks in my mind. On my Calais driver's seat (fitted in a Berlina), there are two yellow plugs at the base of the seat, which plug into the seat side air bag and the seat belt pre-tensioner. The thin wire led off by itself but I can't remember for sure where or how it was run. What colour is the third wire that plugs "into the middle of the seat"?
