    Default Faulty door lock actuator

Hey all....Ive run into the problem of my door lock being stuffed on the rear passenger side. I understand that this is a common fault for the VY and many may have had it fixed under warranty but I dont have the luxury.

When trying to open the car that door lock never comes up and never locks down either. Anyone know what it takes to replace it and how? How much would I be looking at for the new part?

    All help much appreciated..

mate had this issue today rang 2 places was quoted 140 at one place and 180 at another and that was just parts not labour, I rang a wreckers and got one for 65 and had it in in 15 minutes not hard to do at all.

I did the drivers door, there is three torx screws that need to be undone and then the plasic clips popped off the actual rods that the acctuator attatches to then it pulls out put the new one in placing the rods in their respective places and do the clips back up,m thenm screw back in,

hope this helps if you need any more info just ask.

Damn! Sound like this is a bit of a chronic problem for the VY. No way im gonna spend 200 bucks on just the part. I might see if i can pick it from the wreckers too.

I should be able to do the install myself so ill give it a go.

    Anyone else had this issue?

holden has changed the part now to stop the problem, so if you go to a wrecker, chances are your gonna get one of the original actuators that will fail in a few months of use...

Damn a full set went on ebay for about 70 bucks!

Silversurfer: Was your part that you purchased the "fixed" version of the actuator or the one prone to the same problems.

Would be interesting to know what the difference is and exactly what the miracle fix is

the orange/green clips are the later ones, they were done to make it easier to find them in the door when replacing the locks.
the early ones have blue /brown clips

I have a slightly different problem. I have 2 stage unlocking. You know pust button once and the driver side front unlocks and push the button the second time and the rest should unlock, but often the other 3 don't. This happens quite often but more so if the car has been deadlocked. I don't think 3 actuators went at the same time. It could be the key ( I have tried both) or some sort of car computer issue.

    anyone with any ideas.

Dr Bob can you explain what you mean by the clips? My stuffed actuator is still in the car so i havent seen what your reffering to.

Does anyone have the part numbers? i.e. the older part -vs- the newer one. This would make it easier to differentiate when buying

the clips are what attaches to the rods on the lock its self from the actuator

the acutator price here is only 150

Ive found a source on ebay with reasonable pricing I just really need the part number so Im sure im buying the newer version of the actuator and not the old one prone to the same problems

I've had a "dodgey" drivers door lock since new.

Occassionally when I lock the doors (using the remote) the alarm sounds off (to tell me a door failed to lock.. I have a Calais with factory standard alarm). It's always the drivers door that fails. I hit the remote again, and it locks.

I had it seen to twice under warranty, to fix an actuator, then the controller module (?). Warranty expired before it happened again. It still only happens occassionally.

Is this the same problem? Has everyone's problem been the actuator failing occassionally or completey dying?

calaiscruise: Its sound as though its the exact same problem. Maybe wrose for you because its the drivers door. What a pain in the ass.

Is anyone able to tell me what the part numbers are for the newer and old version of this part? Apparently the new version is not prone to these issues

If you have had this fixed under warranty before and it was less than a year ago take your car back to holden to get it fixed becuase that repair work they did has got a years cover on it so they should fix it again at their cost.

    Default Try lubricating it

I had this problem with my front passenger door. My mechanic got me to use a small amount of lanolin type spray on just the knob and moulding behind it. Seems to have fixed the problem for the moment.
