    Default check engine

Have had my 2003 V6 VY die twice in the last week while driving along. Just losses all power. Has restarted fine each time. Second time got the "check engine" code. Any Advise?
Can anyone advise on a basic fault code reader that is compatible with the VY V6 ? and where I might get one?

I suffered the same problem for months when i first bought my VY. Of course it was not till it was 5000 klm out of warranty that the dealer found the cause. It had been towed to several dealers and none of them found a problem till AFTER the warranty expired! It was the plug that connects to the power pack that was the problem and they wanted almost $500 to fix it! After much discussion they aggreed to do it under warranty but not till after i did some homework and found it is a VERY common and well known issue!

I would be having a close look at that plug. You will need a very small tube socket (about 6 or 8 mm from memory) to remove the plug, give it a clean out and put it back in.

Good luck and i hope this helps.

    Hey Jimbo,

Have a very similar problem with my VYII SV8, will cut out in reverse and also when driving over a bump at medium speed. Engine will just die and then come back. If at slow speed he engine will die all together but will restart no problems. have spoken to a couple of dealers but they just give me a blank look. It must be electrical given the sharp loss of power (Engine shutdown). Could you tell me what and where the "Power Pack" is and where to look for it. I am quite savvy with most engines so you can be as tecnical as you like. Much appreciation...Cheers Doug
