Hey,
The battery light in my VY is constantly flickering. I have entered the diag mode, and its telling me the battery voltage is at 11.9V while the car is off, and 12.4 while the car is running. This seems a little low doesnt it ?
If the alternator is faulty, why has the digital alert panel notified me ?
Interesting... I never knew that the diag mode gave a battery reading. Ive got a mini multimeter and have always used that to test my battery. Those readings are both low for my thinking.. How old is the battery mate? Perhaps its just time for a new battery
Im not sure, I only purchased the car approximately a week ago. 2002 model with 57,000kms.
Ive also tested it with a digital multimeter and the readings are the same as the reading on the internal diag screen.
Is there is a quick and simple way to check if a battery has a dead cell ?
Have you checked the levels in the cell? One or more may not have anyu fluid in it. You can also buy those things that look like a big plastic syringe that workers in the opposite way i.e. you can suck up the fluid out of each cell to inspect it. This will tell if its full of crap
if your cells have no fluid then they will collapse this most likely being your problem. where abouts do you live mate?
It was the cell. Left handside was dry topped it up with a bit of water and am on my way to purchase a new battery now. I live in the ACT.
act well can't hepl you out then sorry
id sat brushes or the regualtor in the alternator, a dud battery shouldnt make the alternator (battery light) come on, but if a cell was dry ditch the battery get a new one,
when the car is running it should have 14.2volts at the battery if not the alternator need looking at

So I had to jump start the car, and the alternator appeared to fine, I was getting a reading of of 14.1 volts on the battery terminals, and then after a few mnutes it dropped down to 11.7 volts.
Im just surprised the Alternator failure alert didnt notify me.
the two warnings would have been caused by low voltage, get it checked at an auto elec asap
