    Default Door lock

    Hi folks,

I think I'm understanding your question.
I have just been reading my newly acquired Haynes owners manual and Section 11-8 (illustration 15.3a) states that:

"The door lock button is held in place with a platic clip and a screw- - since the clip will probably be destryoed by removal, obtain severalfrom you dealer before beginning work".

Sounds like its not the problem with the button, but with the clip that holds it in place.

Ahhhh, hinsdight. If was forethought it would be foresight...?!?!?!

I only found this out as I'm about to embark on some serious work on my VY that s long overdue...

Hi - reading some other posts here, my central locking actuator on the front passenger side is only working every now and then - and needs replacing, so I am about to pull my door trim apart.
Could anyone who has done this give me some advice? From the above post - do I need to get some clips etc when I buy my actuator from the Holden theft - (spare parts)? Anything else to watch out for?
I would really like to do this once - and not have to trek back and forth for bits and pieces, (as opposed to how things usually work out with these fiddly bits).
    Cheers

Hey there plainwhitevy!!! From one whitey to another, the manual states only that bit above as a precaution. Perhaps purchase some of the 'clips' and the buttons. The guy in the photo in the manual is prising the door lock button out with a screwdriver. Not sure what was left of it afterwards.

This caution about the clip is in the 'removing vynil trim' section. So the broken clip is a symptom of removing the trim. You're actuator could be working fine, it's the removal of the door lock rise button that does the damage.

My passenger actuator is knackered too, but based on the other thread about the actuator problem, I reckon I'm gonna get that fixed by a pro. Unless someone can convince me it's really easy and of minimal risk to an expensive replacement part.

Plainwhitevy, post again if you want the full step by step guide and I'll try to copy it out this week. It is the Hayne's manuals guide, not mine, so naturally all liability is waived.

Thanks WhiteVY - us plain whites have got to take care of each other!
Where is the other actuator discussion?
I might look at that before I put you to the trouble to copy the manual.
I am reasonably handy, and have done this sort of thing before - but don't want anything less than a good job. If I think that I'll leave loose/broken/scratched bits - I'll pay a pro.
    Many thanks for the reply.

    Hi plainwhitevy,

The other actuator discussion is in the same group as this one VY Holden Commodore (2002 - 2004), but about 20-odd places down the list. It was started by SinisterVY.

There is a bit of chat in there about the door lock and most comments indicate that folks there had it done in the shop.

I'd like to have a crack myself, but am very busy at the mo' so I'd only end up rushing it and effing it up.

BTW, what is your VY like? Sounds like you have an appreciation of the all white car. I bought an VYII ex-sapol a couple of years ago and had a Calais front, Calais skirts and Calais rear on it with VY Calais lights (although I wish i went to the VZ lights, they look ace.)

Engine-wise it's all stock. I reckon the 3.8 has all the power I need. Got some small 'when-I-get-round-to-it' things like tint, exhaust, etc, but it's kinda playing second fiddle to life at the mo'.

Lemme know what yours is like.

Mine is pretty well bog boring basic! I bought the Acclaim at the SA Gov auctions as I wanted mags and 4 air bags, and have only added a towbar and some mats and things.
The V6 is a great motor, and I was not keen to go to a new engine with alloy heads before it had been in production for a few years.
Apart from some warranty issue - which this forum gave me a great advantage in resolving, the only problems have been this door lock actuator, GM's crummy, warping rotors and soggy suspension.
I have just bought new rotors/pads and am waiting for this heat wave to finish before I fit them. My mechanic fitted King H/D springs and new shockers and this is now really good too.
Basically pretty happy with the VY - it is safe, cruisy and has plenty of power in reserve for overtaking etc. The way petrol is going, I intend to enjoy it until the price of petrol makes it pretty well worthless, dump it - and remember the good times while I drive some little 4 cylinder diesel thing for the rest of my life!!!
    Cheers

    Default Door lock fixed!

My front passenger side central locking actuator seemed to be stuffed and I was looking at having to pull trim off etc and fit a new one. My Mechanic got me to try a lanolin spray - only a little and just around the knob and presto - all fixed.
Seems the fit on some is tight, and as they get a bit dusty it can offer too much resistance for the actuator.
Not sure if there is still a residual problem with the actuator, but it is working fine now for about a week.
