Default How do you dismantle headlight switch?

Ok, so how do you dismantle the headlight switch on a VY Calais? I used brute force and ignorance to remove it from the dash but without applying this same method to dismantling it, it doesn't want to come apart.
Does the knob just come off by pulling it? (careful!)
Sorry for a stupid question but better to ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake!

As far as I know, they are a designed not to be dismantled after factory assembly (I'm open to being proved wrong tho). Seems to be the modern idiom, yer average joe blo can't 'recon' things, you can only replace the whole unit with a new one

If you mean "How do you remove the switch from the dashpanel, the answer is to remove the facia surrounding the guages (couple of screws at top and perhaps a clip or two, then reach in behind the dash and release the catch retaining the switch in place.

If you mean "How do you pull the b*****y switch apart, you don't!

    Regards

The switch does come apart, Phreddy dismantled mine before my eyes when I had my lighting conversion done. I had to pull it apart myself later on when one of the LED's went blinking on me. From memory it just all unclicks and everything centres around the shaft of the switch. If [pulling apart, just remember carefully what order everything went in.

^^ Agreed. Phreddy pulls them apart all the time. Perhaps send him a PM? He's a busy man though...

Here's a few pages from my lighting mod install guide relating to the headlight switch - PDF format, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader. I can't attach it here, because even PDF'd it's too large. You can download it from my web site here - http://www.asr-audio.com.au/files/StripHLSwitch.pdf - it's about 1.5MB.

(don't try and find it on my downloads page, it won't be there.)

It is a bit tricky, but hopefully this will help.

See, I was proven wrong! Phreddy you're a legend and thanks Holden for bucking the trend & actually making something plastic that actually can be disassembled and re-assembled.
