Hi Guys, my vy v6 is a little noisey , its done 165000 k's . What oil would be good to quiet it down
Peter
is it deffantly a engine rattle like lifters or a pulley type noise? i know the harmonic ballancers are common on going on these, as i had the same problem in my vr, i know different motors, but same type ballancer, check the main crank pulley, the big one at the bottom of the engine, u'll know which one when u see it, it has a rubber center, check that there is no cracks or rubber missing, also if this is ok and its in the engine, like lifters, etc, check the oil level, might be low too, and if its a ticking top noise at the very top of the motor like on top of the manifold could be just noisy injectors, common too.
When you give the engine a bit of a rev then as it goes back to idle there is a little bit of noise from the rocker cover area..not a great deal but its there, when your driving along its perfect no problems at all, I am using 5w 30 castrol edge.......wouldnt 10 w 60 be too thick or doesnt it work that way.
Peter
ive got a 10w50 in my vz and i think thats a little thick. but im not sure about the eco's

yeh i'm useing the castrol edge 5w-30 in my vy ss and its good, i have a slight lifter noise at cold start for a min or two then its ok, used to be all the time, untill i switched to castrol edge, so you useing a good oil, mines done 159,000km's
mate, do yourself a favour and buy some "Moreys oil stabilizer" its in a white a red container and comes in 1L bottles $18 i think, it works a treat
