    Default Suspension Issue

Hey guys I have used the search feature and could not find what i was looking for so I thought i wouls start a new thread. I have a VY Senator with the standard suspesion that came with the car. I want to lower the car a bit but i am worried that i am going to ruin my ride by replacing the HSV set up. Has anyone lowered there HSV and experienced a better or worse ride from removing the HSV suspesion set up?

Also if i was to lower my car what set up would be recommended. I was thinking 3 inch lower and the rear and 2 inches at the front, but not sure what shock/strut or springs to use.

In general terms your ride is nearly always firmer when you lower the car. I don't know if you class that as better or worse. I just installed Bilstein springs and shocks all round in my VP and have had awesome results. Some others have reported good results with KYB. For that sort of car spend money on quality as with anything else you get what you pay for.

Any reason why you want the arse dragging on the ground?

I like a firm ride and have had lowered cars before but i have heard that aftermarket suspension may not be as good as the suspension already on the car. I like the look of the car lowered because atm the car is high and i dont like the look of it at that level

You're always going to get a firmer ride when lowering a car...

...ESPECIALLY if you wanna drop it 3 inches! You sure you wanna go that low?

I've found that Pedders give a better ride quality than Kings for the same ride height. Bilstein would probably be better again.

I am not sure if i want to go that low or not just yet. either way i want to lower the rear an inch lower then the front because the rear sits higher and i want it to be level. I might go on photoshop and have a look t see how it all goes. I might stick with 2.5 inch drop at rear 2 inch at front. might be alright but i will have to look into it.

If anyobne has any pics of lowered senators or vys with 19s could you please post the pics.
    Thanx

3 inches? You really want it to look like a wog chariot? It needs about an 1 inch all round. Even then it will kill the nice ride.

I have gone teins with mine, kit cost $2400, how much it will lower the car I do not know, will wait and see when I have them installed. Wont be until mid year though, along with many other mods

1.5 inches all round IMO is the right balance between looks and comfort...

D2 make pretty good coilovers from what i hear for the price.

More commonly used on jap cars though.

    Just so you know..
this is 2" lower front 3" lower rea on a stock VY with 19's..
the sill panels are pretty level..
Im guessing HSV is an inch lower already from factory than the stockys.

Thanx Travy, That looks pretty nice. I think i like that height but maybe even a little lower again lol. I am not sure about the HSV being lower from standard but if that is the case i would be very happy with the height, but then again i have to take into consideration that my car have a body kit and will make it look lower again.

I havent got a camber kit in the rear yet, but just bear in mind that to have it that low with a camber kit im goin to have to do some rear guard work to avoid scraping.

Im running 245/35/19's all round. I went on a trip last weekend, with 3 people in the car, luggage i just scraped on the rears a touch on larger bumps while at speed. it was just ever so lightly buffing the very shoulder of the tyre. no noticeable damage.

yeh don't forget uv got the body kit too, my vy ss to lower it id have to start at super lows as the factory fe2 same as urs should have are already lows over the stock holden suspension, peddars showered me what mine would look like and inch lower alround on there computer and i wouldn't want to go much lower than that as it would statr to look to low and woulds csrape the **** out of everything under neath on speed humps, driveways etc, mines already scraping the front bar on driveways etc, and thats with a standard ss body kit and fe2 ride hight, i admit yeh it does look a little high, but an inch lower would be sweet as, but 3 inches might be just a little too low, with the bodykit, good luck with what u decide, just my personal oppinion, wouldn't go lower than an inch or 2 for comfort and a perfect ride hight with out looking ridiculous.

Thanx for that info i will take that into concideration. i am not in too much of a hurry to get this done but i am going to spend some more time thinking and researching it and then make a decision. I think i will be going adjustable coil overs because then i can just change how high it is if i dont like it, but now i am just nor too sure what system to go lol. You were also saying pedders showed you on the computer, Can they do that for all cars?

yeh i'm pritty sure they can do it for any vehicle, as i think they were customers cars they showed me and the guy said that the coil overs were good as you said you can adjust it to what you want, they had them on there peddars ute in moorabin(warrigal rd) and it looked good the hight they had it at, i think it was $1,100 for a pair of coil overs for the front and the same for the rear for the vy's, they also said the best thing was that u just replace the component that fails, not the whole strut for example. i thought bout the coil overs, but want to get mine done soon, but might have a rethink, and see if not i'm going kingspring superlows and monroe front struts(lowered) and rear shocks(lowered) see how we go after easter and everything else is out of the way, plus its a daily and won't see much if any track work, so not sure if coil overs would be worth it for me.

Yeah my car is a daily as well but i spent a lot of money buying the car that i thought it might not be a good idea to go cheap on the suspension. The ride i have now is really good but i want to go lower. I was told by pedders that they do not have an adjustable system for the rear of the car so i scraped the pedders idea and have been looking at tein and other products.
