Default check oil warning

hi guys,

ever since 3 or so weeks ago i keep getting a check oil warning on my calais.
i checked the oil level and it was around half way so i thought there shouldnt really be a problem with that, but i added a bit more and the warning remained.
i decided to service the car and changed the oil and the oil filter, unfortunetly the warning is still there.
also when in freeway traffic and idling the oil pressure gets down to 30 psi, but then gets back to almost 55 psi when driving, is this bad?

cheers
Trevor

you may have a faulty sender unit, your oil pressure will always drop at idle, you only have to worry when you lose all oil pressure.

Disconnect the battery & have a cold bourbon, then reconnect the battery.

Has the engine been pressure cleaned recently? We've had a lot of trouble with oil senders when people pressure clean their own engines.
Water gets inside the sender and causes an incorrect reading.

I think i MAY have figured out what the problem is, i recently bought the car and when i bought it the alert did not come on, anyway i found out off the original owner that he took out the oil sender (or whatever it is) when he was installing the oil pressure gauge, and did not put it back.
could this be the problem?
