Wheels are for posers. Save your $$$ for real mods...

As for tyres, I've got Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalins and I love them!

Thank, posing is my thing nah but i want my car to be unique because all the commodores look alike here hehe, 18" are good but a need to know what dimentions can I use and still have a smooth ride (how wide can i go for front and back rims and how thin does the tyre have to be so that it doesn't touch the body when in dumpy roads)

You wont have any dramas at all in a VY with 18's, but 18s are pretty small for a VY is you want to look the poser part, 20's are too small these days apparently.. lol

Is that for the fronts too? won't the tires touch the body in hard turns?

Go for 19's or 20's not 18's. Hankook K104's and K107's are a good tyre... great value for money. If you live in melbourne i'd go to Mag Wheel and Tyre in Preston (Chifley drive, near northland, at the round about)... they'll take good care of you.

In NSW, early Highway Patrol experience with the 18's on the VY SS Series 1 led to a policy of the Police ordering the sedans with the 17's. The cost of the 18 inch tyres was excessive for commands with limited budgets. It is therefore possible to buy a Series 1 VY SS with factory installed 17's, which could indicate an earlier life as a Highway Patrol car.

After a while, the policy was dumped and the cars were accepted with 18's and we had to find the money to pay for replacement tyres. Just as a matter of interest, these days it costs us around $1,200 per set of 19's for the VE, and I guess we'd all like to pay only $300 for a 19 inch tyre.

    Regards

Hankook are not a good tyre...anything that is "great value for money" is never the best.

Soud, go with Dunlop SP Maxx, i believe the international tyre is much better than the one made here. Slightly softer compound.

You could always go a track tyre lol, yokohama A048. Bridgestone do theirs as well as dunlop.

    Go 19's....
at least you can get the correct load rating tyres that fit with out scrubbing.

the car has 18's standard so why would you go and spend a heap of money for the same size wheels? Seems silly to me.

I didn't say they're the best. You can get better tyres but you pay an arm and a let for it. But from my experience the K104 is very very good and the K107 is just as good but in the wet handles excellently...

check out the suspension and wheels thread

    IMO - 18s .. too small
19s .. better than 18s but still a tad small (UNLESS W.WALL TYRES ARE USED ... somehow makes wheels look bigger)
and 20s ... too big + tyre price is ridiculous!

Hi guys just a quesiton regarding legalities....
I have the stock 18's on my ss, and i was thinking if i put 19 or 20 on, to keep the overall circumference/diameter/radius of rim+tyre the same, i'll need super super super low profile tyres. As they are, they're very low profile. So my question is, to go 19 or 20 are people increasing they're circumference/diameter/radius of rim+tyre, or is it the same? If it's more than a 10mm (i think) increase of the diameter/circuference (not sure which one), i think it's illegal. Thanks.

In victoria the overall diameter can increase by up to 15mm..

Use this to calculate the differences, it will also tell you by how much your speedo will be out etc too. very handy
