    Default vy brake upgrade?

    Hi guys,
Need to upgrade my VY SS brakes, i'm not too happy with them and now that they've warped a little, may as well put the money i'd waste machining them into new ones =)
So... i think i will upgrade just the front rotors, but buy new pads for front and back.
Should i go for DBA slotted rotors that are the same size as stock with QFM police spec pads? Or should i get RDA rotors instead?
OR is there a slightly more expensive option that isn't overkill (overkill as in $1000+), that possibly involves bigger rotors and callipers for the front?

    Thanks,
    Adam

There are some nice brake upgrades around, theres a guy on ebay that does them but i forget his username.

You should easily be able to get a 330mm front brake kit for under a grand with calipers and braided lines and police spec brake pads off the guy on ebay for under a grand.

EDIT: Its Mr Spares and the kit is $999 lol. Heres the link:

    Thanks mate.

Will putting on standard size DBA rotors help a lot over stock?

Also, is it better to get a brake setup with small rotors and more pistons or big rotors and less pistons. I found this (a fair bit above my budget though):

Also should i do the back brakes too?

It depends what you're after. Just getting some standard sized rotors that are slotted will help alot with brake fade as it will help dissipate the heat. Also, getting Bendix Ultimate or police spec pads will pull the car up nice as well. Braided lines will keep a nice firm pedal.

I think larger diameter + more pistons is advantageous, but 8 piston is a bit over the top. If a 4 piston kit was available in 330mm-343mm for a decent price, that'd be the one to go for but you're looking at big money.

Personally with the rears, if you don't upgrade them in size (315mm rears are available I think through Mr Spares again for a tad under a grand), then just go curved slotted and some nice pads. The front brakes do most of the braking so thats the most important, however upgrading the fronts can throw out the brake bias of the car (and you may find the car leaning heavily forward in braking) but the rears on a VY aren't too small from factory so with 330mm fronts you'd be ok.

It really depends on your circumstances. Whats the reasoning behind larger brakes? Just better stopping performance? Do you have track work or strip work in mind for the car, or major engine modifications?

Not really taking it to the track, it's more for general driving. Brake fade at present is really bad, even worse than my old m16 nissan pulsar which had stock brakes, but then again it was a lot smaller and lighter.
I go up to the snow (mt perisher, hotham) each season, and i have good fun on the twisties so i want good braking... i took my parents honda accord up last year and after all the heavy braking it needed new pads and needed the rotors re-machined. So yeah, would be good if it pulled up quicker and had a LOT LESS fade.

    Thanks.

Edit: As for engine mods, i'll just have an OTRCAI, mafless tune and full exhaust + extractors.

A set of slotted rotors and police spec pads are probably all you need. They will pull you up a lot better, no brake fade and bugger all dust. $220 for a pair of slotted RDA's and QFM police spec pads, usually around the $15 mark delivery depending on where you are.

If brake fade is the main issue, the slotted rotors should fix this along with some good police spec pads as Not an abba Fan priced above^^^. If you still want it to stop quicker, go for the 330mm kit (twin piston) from Mr Spares on ebay, and then grab some slotted rears with police spec pads.

Can you put the police spec pads on the rear stock vy rotors, or will it chew away at them?

Nah you certainly can put the police spec pads on the stock rear rotors. Slotted standard sized rears would solve the brake fade issue, but perhaps thats something that can wait til the rotors need replacing (not just machining).
