Default VYSS Ute, Possible to have setup for Hardtop AND Soft Tarp?

Hi All,

Have a 03 VYSS Ute that is fitted with a factory hardtop. Works well but I have acquired a genuine soft tarp that I would also like to use. Reason for this is a have a dirtbike in the back quite a bit with the hardtop off, and sometimes is can be a few days before someone is around to help me put it back on.

So what is stopping me from putting the tarp on successfully id that at the front of the tub (looking at ute from the front) a bar goes in the tarp attaches to. Blocking the holes where the bar goes in is the rounded corners for the hardtop. Taking these off is not really an option as the seal is stuck to these corners and the side of the tub so this would ruin it.

Anyone had this predicament before? And how did you go getting around it? Im sure someone has.

Cheers and thanks
James

Sorry yes what I posted was confusing, just some images here to make things clearer.

Ute is fitted with hardtop from factory. With this off and a Factory tarp fitted, most fits fine.

As you can see above the front of the tarp has nothing to attach to. There is where the "bar" comes into play

This slots onto the front of the tarp and clips into two holes on the side of the ute.

But, the hardtop corners are blocking it, as can be seen here.

Now I could just take these off as there are only two screws holding them on, but they are also Glued. I assume this is for a good water seal and taking them on and off I think would ruin that.

Also as can be seen below the black seal follows onto the tub of the ute and that is also glued, so taking them on and off every time is not really an option.

What I am wondering is if anyone has got around this before and your results. Tried grining out the holes in the hardtop rounded inserts? Designed a shorter bar and mounted it differently?

Hope this makes it much clearer.
Thanks everyone for your time,
Cheers
James

oh i get what you saying now, yeah those inserts are for sealing the hardlid. with out them water would leak into the tray something stupid

so the bar basically sits right next to the end of the tray next to the window.

how does the tarp attach to the bar?

Do you want to to be 100% water proof?, i have an idea

What about attaching the bar so it just sits under the inserts, and use either velco or magnets to attach it to the bar? your just looking to hold that end bit up?

id take it to an upholsterer and see if they can velcro your tonneau and glue the other side to the metal. better would be magnets.

Thanks for the input guys. Yes at the end of the day all I am wanting to do is hold the end bit up and stop it from flapping around. The only thing that worries me about your idea of mounting the bar is that is that very seeable and perminent. But your idea got me thinking. I could make some brackets for the bar to sit in. Example.

Could use L brackets so bar will sit in it and not be able to go back. also could glue magnets to brackets and bottom of bar to make it more sturdy.

I would also have to cut the bar down obviousley.

The tarp attaches to the bar via a plastic line on the bottom of the tarp. This slides into a grove on the bar.

What you guys think? I might accually be the first person that has had to do this by the sounds!

Cheers

So you wouldnt need to put velco or magnets on there then, would you have it so the bar can be removed? I was talking about mounting in under the plastic inserts so it doesnt effect the operation of the hardlid, so you wont have to take it out i dont think it would be that hard to do actually.

Long weekend coming up, tackle it and let me know how it goes! Funny enough i was only thinking of this a couple of weeks ago because i want to put a maloo sailplale in, and want to have both a soft and hard cover. Hardcovers are great untill you have something bigger then the tray. then its a bitch, even more so if your by yourself.

Thanks aswell i love it. You know in those colourbond adds where the blokes look back at the roof, i do that with my car, just walk away backwards and smile lol
