    Default Vy Headlight Switch Help!

hey everyone, had my headlight switch globes slowly go out over the last couple of weeks, now there completly out, removed the headlight switch tonight, is there anyway to get to the globes or do i need to buy a new switch?

i pulled the back of the switch, but i couldn't see the bulbs and the circuit board won't pull out due to the knob, anyway to get to them or not possible, anyhelp greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,

    Ben.

You can get to them, but it's very fiddly.

phreddy knows how to do it - he does the coloured LED's for them and he's done hundreds! Perhaps send him a PM.

I did see him with my switch pulled apart when he was doing my blue light conversion but not sure how he did it.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Here's a link to a document on my web site. It's an excerpt from the instruction docco for the LED conversion. (don't try browsing to it through my site, there's no link on the pages...)

    http://www.asr-audio.com.au/files/StripHLSwitch.pdf

It's a little over 1.5MB, and in PDF format (obviously). If you're keen you could replace the globes with green LEDs - and they should never burn out again. (provided of course you use some resistors in series with the LEDs as shown, otherwise you'll destroy the LEDs as soon as you turn on the ignition! I use 680 ohm resistors, allows about 12-15mA flow through the LEDs) I also "flat-top" the LEDs with a file to widen the viewing angle, otherwise it ends up with "hotspots" directly over the top of the LEDs.

Hope that helps - some might prefer to pay the $40 for the new switch though.... At least if you try and it doesn't work out, it won't cost you all that much more over and above the new switch anyway.

how far have u got it stripped? u just need 2 take off the back of the switch off so u can see the PCB board and the main switch stalk u could call it. then use a pair of pliers and pull the stalk straight out then ur PCB board will come straight off along with the dial button at the front.

I have pulled it off, you're the best

Do you know where I can get more lights? I am not looking to replace the colour of them, just the stock ones will do.

    Thanks heals WRX884

i may have some layin around from past conversions but i wouldnt use them simply coz they have been heated up from the soldering iron 2 remove., so chances r they could fail or already blown from the heat. my only suggestion would b 2 take the green plastic sleeves from them, cut down ur original Globe legs that they have and wire a bezel globe that u can get from say jay car or dick smith then put the green sleeves back on top. Solder them back in place n u should b good 2 go. Take a globe from the switch with u also and compare sizes that way 2.
