I use standard CDs as well as CD-R ones all the time without a worry.
Once I burnt a CD onto a CD-RW disc (a re-writable disc) and it wouldn't play. It came up with an error.
Do these CDs just not play in the standard CD player and is there a way to overcome it?
Or did I just stuff the burn process up?
my pioneer in my ute wont play CDRW and that plays MP3 etc etc. havent tried in the stocko unit in the VY. i would say no. copy the contents onto a CD-R disc. but i dont know why they wont? anyone know?
Standard head unit will not play CD-RW, thats what the manual says. Mine won't even play most CD-R's, crappy in this day and age, the standard unit should be capable of playing mp3's at least.
my vz plays cdrw, that was with the factory one, but they could be slightly different even though the look the same

Our VZ has a Blaupunkt Single Disc changer, which will play CD-Rs, but not CD-RWs.

The CD-RW's use a different laser frequency to CD-R's which is why some CD players just won't recognise them.

My Jan '05 build VZ can't play RWs, but can play CD-Rs just fine. (although I never use cheap-n-nasty media, and never burn audio CDs at high speeds)
Interesting to note that later builds seem to work OK.... Maybe there was a change made to the reader mechanism? (I've worked on many of these head units, and there doesn't seem to be any physical differences in the base unit - if there has been an update it's a subtle one...)
