Been running BP 98 pulp in my VY V6 for the last 9 months and have noticed that in the last month it is not starting first time on cold mornings.
Filled up with a tank of normal unleaded BP and within a few days it was firing first time again.
Weird and only when below say 10c and only after it has sat all night.
Its got me stumped.

could be a clogged fuel filter
May be but doesnt explain why a change to a lower octane fuel has cured the cold start issue.
Touch wood.

probably not the fuel itself making the change, but maybe the delayed reaction in the fuel igniting due to higher ron is causing issues, have you cleaned out the throttle body and iac motor and performed a FULL service in the past year?
Get a reg service under extended warranty but am unaware of them touching the throttle body and iac .
Will get them to replace the fuel filter and throttle body and iac at next service.
Thanks for your input

its something most mechanics will skip, although its an important exersize on the holden v6's. remove the intake pipe leading to the throttle body and see if its full of black gunk (carbon). if its chock o block full get some carby cleaner form supercheap auto and spray a liberal amount as far inside as you can, now you will also see a little 'hole' just inside the throttle body mouth, this is leading to the iac, put a hose on the enf=d of you carby cleaner can and spray inside the hole and watch all the gunk fall out.
This is a probable cause for your problem but there are many things related to your query.
