Question Switchs instead of rubber coin holder

    Hey guys n gals!

I am installing some neons in my car and and would it be possible to make one of the buttons where the traction control button usually is to install a custom switch and connect as an on/off switch between the light/12v? Something like the following...

    http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...tombuttons.jpg

Is the button a Holdens spare part? Part Number? I know the top is custom in the pic and am not too fussed what it says atm.

I know the surround is GM #92111640
and the blank fill in bit is GM #92111636

Will I require anything else? Currently where the buttons would be is a little rubber insert/coin thingo.

What sort of prices am I looking at? I'm in Adelaide.

Any info would be great, cheers guys

I'm pretty sure that phreddy in the ASR audio bit will help with knocking up a custom switch for you, i do remember reading about him doing such things. I'd be running a new circuit in your car with a lovely fuse block in there somewhere - don't want those lovely holden electronics breaking do we...
Be careful of where you post about this. There are a few nasty people on here that don't like neons at all.

Yeah Phreddy's your man for this one.

He gave me the part number for the switch housing and switches. I replaced the rubber coin holder for a switch for my stereo aux in plus three dummy switches if I ever need them in future. They're genuine Holden parts but unfortunately I don't have the part numbers any more.

    ozzie-online.

Been a bit busy Mate, sorry....

    (G'day Dave!! )

The switches you refer to are a genuine Holden part, they are actually used in cop cars as an "interior blackout" switch. (in other words, they kill all interior lighting so that they can hide at the roadside and ping you when you're playing up, without you seeing the glow of internal lighting) The switch has a funny looking icon of a dome light with a cross through it - when I buy them in I sand the paint off the top, then respray them in either black or tempest grey, and then I take them to a laser engraver to get the new icons engraved on them.

The switch itself is GM part number 92111635 for the black one, but I'm not sure of the number for the grey switch. (I don't buy the grey ones, I spray them whatever colour I require) I'm sure if you go to Holden with that number but explain to them that you need the GREY one (if you do, that is...) they should be able to order the right part for you.

    Cheerz!

Thanks for the reply, I will swing down there today. Should I expect the switch/covers to be expensive?

As I am not familiar with the wiring of the switches, your pretty sure I can use it as a kill switch for 12v?

Also should be doing a blue dash conversion sometime soon, so will contact you via the website to place an order

The switch will be around $20, maybe a little more. The blank button caps are about $2.50-3.00 each, and the bezel about $8.00-9.00. They may not have the switches in stock, as it's not a commonly used part. (they can order though)

For the wiring diagram, I will reply to your email with a diagram. Yes they can be used to switch 12V no worries, I'm not sure about the current rating but I would estimate it to be around 5A or so, but I wouldn't be confident running too much more than that - I'd use a relay. However, your neons should pull nowhere near that. (unless you're lighting your car up like Vegas!)
