Hey guys n gals!
Had my new VY commy for a week now, love it, except I don't know if this is in all models but the horn sounds like it is from an excel? lol
Where abouts is the horn? Is it hard to replace? Is there something that would sound better and be a easy swap? (preferably legal) pics?
bump.......
Its very easy to locate. Its behind the bumper facia on the drivers side. You need to get down and look up behind the bumper to see it. One bolt and two wires is all it takes to remove.
It comes complete with a mounting arm which can be removed. Commercially available horns would bolt straight on, but it might just be easier to fit a second horn on the passengers side. Look under the bumper on that side and you should see a pair of unused connectors on the end of a black and a dark green or brown wire. You will need to make up or obtain a left hand mounting bracket, or you could just purchase the second horn complete either new or secondhand. Five minutes work to install.
I'm thinking of changing mine too, it sounds to pranzy would be ok if it were a calaisbut when i use the horn its not out of politeness so it should sound like oi ******** out the ****ing way.
Yeah I totally know what you mean. Anyone have an easy replacement suggestion? Possibly from an older model commodore? Much wiring involved or just same wires?![]()
Hi, I replaced my horn with twin air horns out of a Vectra, easy and plenty of grunt too.
I got 2 tone horns from the wrecker off another VN, they mount on the one braket and sound better then stock. I wonder if you could fit these to the extra mount you got on the VY?

Very easy, just grab the horns from an SS (they have two, one either side) wires are already in place so just mount them up and blast away.
I took the pissy littte single horn off my Vx Acclaim, and replaced it with 2 horns off a VZ. Had to make up a mounting bracket for the one on the passenger side, wires were already there. Low note 400Hz on the drivers side High note 500 Hz on the Passenger side, WHAT A DIFFERENCE in the sound, a much higher louder more sweeter sound.
