Default Hi all, new here. ECU protocol.

New here. Have a VY series II with factory fitted LPG. This may heve been asked before so here goes.

Does anyone know if the after market ECU readers will talk to the ECU on a VY ? The one I am looking at is a CAN OBD II code reader. It says it will talk to most vehicles made after 1996. Does anyone know what the protocol is ?

    Ta.

I recently bought what appears to be the same scanner and it seemed to work OK except for one problem. I asked Doctor Bob (who is a very wise man) about it. Below is my question to him followed by his response. It may or may not help you.

The reason I ask is, I bought a scantool a few months ago and tried it out and it seemed to work ok ( ie live data, vehicle information, etc). It said there were no fault codes, which was fine. Yesterday, after giving the brake system a flush, the engine warning light came on (maybe a coincidence) and now it stays on all the time. I connected the scantool and it still says there are no fault codes, so I don't know if there is a problem with the scanner or something else is wrong.
    Thanks Gerry.

if the light is on there is a code in the system somewhere it may be in another module not using OBD2 comms. as most of the car runs on a different comms protocol.

I bought the scanner to read and clear codes, so in this instance it is not working for me. That is not to say it wont read any codes.

the VY V6 doesnt use CAN or OBD2
    it uses UART comms
any interface will only be as good as the software, most aftermarket software will not pick up manufacturer specific DTC information.
