When to change the differential oil?
my VY had 225250 on odo
i got my diff oil changed today
is that right?
they are a fill for life type oil.... its not specified as a normal service item to be replaced
but then again it cant hurt to change it
I have heard exactly what Peanuts mentioned above, I would do it just for the sake of doing it especially considering the cost.
i usually like to recommend every 90,000km especially for a lsd

i dont know which oil they put in
they did it for 70 dollars total
i learned from some web to change this oil every 100k's
i use penzoil 80w90 which is good for LSD's if it gets a decent wokout step it up to 80w140. also good for LSD. as for when to change the oil. for a open center (single spinner) oil for life might be ok but i'd still change it every 100,000km. for LSD i'd change it more often. the holden LSD is a simple cone arrangement, metal on metal. they do wear so there is tiny little metal bits floating around in the oil. not a good thing really.
i used castrol diff oil in the VS and i've now got a bearing whine. never had any issues with my VN which has always had penzoil

Best advice i can give- look for oil rated EP- or extreme pressure. This is an actual tested rating of shear resistance. Mobil was the first commercially available oil to break the 40 lb extreme pressure rating.
well
i checked my invoice
they put in 90W80
