Repair prices - Metro Holden

Hey Guys,
I had my car serviced recently at Metro Holden, last one whilst under warranty and I sure as heck won't be going back.

They picked up a few things which needed doing which was great but the pricing scared the living jesus out of me!

Inlet Manifold Leaking, $367.50 labour and $149.90 for the part.
LH Rocker Cover leaking, $105 labour and $23.60 for the part.
Rear Brake Pads, $94.50 labour and $107.50 for the part.

I've checked out the inlet manifold and from what I can gather it's a gasket leaking, a few bucks there but that will sort that one out.

The rocker cover gasket needs replacing, dare say this would have happened when the roller rockers were done, surely just because it's a gasket they wouldn't replace the whole rocker cover!?

I can't believe they are serious quoting the above prices.

the rocker cover gaskets are cheap as chips to buy from autopro etc, in fact ive got one at work lol. you could do that your self and would cost less than $20 - definetly dont need to replace the cover

rear pads, are they fitting gold plated or something? should cost around 50-60 bucks for good quality


in short, they are taking you for a ride darren


you could give all that a go yourself if your pretty handy with a spanner, if not go support your local

A rocker cover is $23.60? That's what I would expect the gasket to be priced at. The labour sounds expensive, but that's what Holden charge.

What you stated above sounds expensive, but about right for Holden. You're not getting ripped off, just paying for the lion. You could probably triple everything above if it was a Hyundai or something.

All of the above are fairly simple and any ole mechanic could do the same job for much less.

Always mae sure that when you take your car to a dealer for servicing particularly while still under warranty, always endorse (write on) the sevice sheet that they get you to sign before they commence, something like...."No mechanical work or replacement of any parts, other than under warranty, to be performed with prior consent from owner". Usually manages to keep things in perspective.

By the end of today the brake pads and rocker cover gasket will be done assuming spring have the gasket, a total cost of $53, geez that's a bit of difference.

$18 for the gasket from my local Sprint and $35 for the rear pads (QFM from Greg at GSL RallySport) and that's including freight

The inlet manifold gasket is wafer thin, I should have changed it when the thermostat was done.

Cheers guys, it seems I'm not going crazy after all.

The best thing now is I get to do all the work on my car without having to worry about the warranty

check which gasket is leaking
the blower gaskets have been known to give problems splitting, if its leaking oil or coolant its the manifold to head joints
