Default New VY 'S' Owner, Detailing Question

Hi i am now a new VY 'S' owner!!!!

i just started to give the car a paint cut today but once i was half way through i realised that the tin says "DO NOT USE ON CARS WITH CLEAR COATS"... do VY's (HERON WHITE in colour) have a clear coat and am i safe?

    cheers for any help again!

all holdens have a clear coat as far as im aware. hope you didnt cut too deep. if you didnt, you could take it to a pro and pay $300 to get it detailed properly

Yes, your car will have a 2 pac (base coat/clear coat) paint job.

It's ok to "cut" the clearcoat to some extent. Just don't go all the way through! What product were you using? Are you using a machine or by hand?

What are you trying to achieve? Scratch removal? paint cleaning? polishing? The idea is to use the least aggressive product that will do the job.

You should use Meguiars products. They cost more but are the best.
Wash your car with a bucket and sponge using Meguiars Gold Class car wash,
dry it off with a chamios, depending on the depth of the scratches use either Meguiars Swirl Remover or Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner, then use either Meguiars Wet Look or Deep Crystal Polish and to finish give it a wax.

The Kitten product is too aggressive for clear coats IMO. You may find yourself instilling more scratches than you take out.

KBone has the right idea. Either that or try Meguiars Scratch X for scratch/swirl removal. Whatever you use, make sure it's clear coat safe.

For a final wax and to really make it shine, I would recommend Meguiars NXT Tech wax.

when u were cutting it, did the pad go white after a while?

if not u got a clearcoat

not all cars have a clear coat.. they may look as if they do.

my dads red vz r8 maloo doesnt have a clear coat. it really looks as if it does but it doesnt.

You should be safe giving it a cut by hand but be very very carefull if ur doing it by machine!!!!!!!!

what is your opinion of the "polyglaze" product?

it is polyglaze "cut and polish"

doesnt say anything about clear coats on it.

Best to ask the experts. People here mean well, but I wouldn't be putting to much faith in their opinions.

    Try this.
Detail Addiction - The Detail Enthusiasts Club - Powered by vBulletin

Plenty of real experts there to answer all your questions. I use Menzerna IP, Menzerna 106 & Zaino Z2/Z5 pro products on my VY.

Most of the stuff they sell at Autobarn or Supercheap is ok but you can get much better.

as a detailer for 7 years... be careful what you use as some of the cutting compounds out there are pretty abrasive, When you buy the stuff be careful to make sure that it sais "Safe for clear coat" on the label.

The most important tip I can give you is not to leave it in one spot for too long as it will burn the paint quickly
And make sure you have washed the car really well as one piece of dirt between the buff pad and the paint can really hurt

yeh if ur a begginer to polishing best to just do light polishing and get a proffesional to do the hard stuff.

do u mean not to leave the polish in one spot or with machine? either way ur right with some polishes

yeh wash the car proply but common sense should tell most people that lol.

oh and good to see theres another detailer here
