The two front electric windows can only be opened by continuously stabbing the switch. The window will jurk down about an inch and stop until the switch is pressed again. (the back windows are manual wind)
It takes about 6 or 8 presses to fully open the window.
This fault occurred in both windows at exactly the same time. The windows close (retract) without a problem.
I have removed and tested the window switches with a meter and they are OK. There is no obvious mechanical fault. I have also swapped out the relay in desperation.
Appreciate any suggestions...
Might be worth swapping the window relay. It controls the auto down function. Just try to swap it with a similar relay from elsewhere in the fuse box and see how you go.
if they both did it together sounds like a relay type problem.
Yes.. that was my first thought also.. I did that, and it made no difference. It seems that the control path is through a computer component that may need to be re-set... if this is the case is it possible to re-initialise the computer?
many thanks.
Further... If I hold the switch down for a full 5 seconds the window will open... Is this a BCM problem?
If the relay didn't work, it could be further into the electricals, like the BCM. I note you have asked Doctor Bob in The Pub the same question - let's see what he suggests.
I think you are right.. I realised that it works I I hold down the switch for 5 seconds... I think this is going to be expensive... many thanks again.
Finally took it to an Auto Electrician.. the problem was traced to a burned pin on the BCM plug.. the pin was bypassed with a hard wire saving replacing the BCM module. Fixed and tested.
