hi everyone, i have had my fuel usage on my vy ss stretch from bout 14ltrs/100 to now 15.3ltrs/100 over the past month and a half and dramatically increase to 15.3 in the last couple of weeks, i'm doing the same driving as b4 so no difference in driving, thought it may have been cause i switched from shell vpower to bp ultimate as this was when it went up, or tyres as there not the best and due for replacement, but the last couple of fills since i have gone back to shell vpower and the gauge has said 50-55km till empty and ready bout halfway between quater tank and empty with only bout 370-380 km's traveled, used to be round the 430-450km mark.
but when i fill up it only takes 49-56ltrs, showing that i would have 20-25ltrs left in the tank but the gauge says only 5-10 liters left, i had the fuel calibration done bout 18months ago, could this be my calibration again?
or would it be my cluster playing up?(holden suggested this if it played up again, but had been good for upto 18months since, till now)
any advice greatly appreciated and how much do holden charge for this roughly(was done under used car warranty last time)?
Cost me $39 a few weeks ago for a calibration, seems to be better than it was before.
Mine was doing the exact same thing as yours so it would be worth the money to get it done again.
yeh, sweet as juzo, thanks for that, yeh going to ring holden today, hopefully will be better again after that.
the vy commodore fuel guage was a recall from what i remember when i worked for holden
what is the recall? is it just a callibration or a do they do something else to it? like do they repalace anything?
Yeah good luck getting it fixed, you'll need it. If I fill mine up as soon as the low fuel warning comes up it will only take 50 litres. I've driven it until it read 0 to empty, drove another 50 kilometres and it still only took 60 litres.
I don't mind too much though. It keeps the fuel pump submerged if you don't run it all the way to empty so it will run cooler and last longer.
Heya cpbait...
Straight after doing my extractors and exhaust, i got Brads mail order mafless tune. Since then i think my fuel consumption has progressively been getting worse (my trip computer reads a lower average than when i compare litres i put in with distance i've travelled, whereas my trip computer used to read a higher average than what i was actually using). I was on the phone with Brad and he mentioned to me that in a lot of cases, the oxygen sensors in your exhausts can be ruined when the coating from the new extractors burns off. I ordered a pair of sensors from him today, and will receive them tomorrow. I am not really sure if this has any relevance to your problem, but if i remember correctly you did your extractors a while back so it could be faulty o2 sensors. I will let you know how it goes.
hey adamc11, nah i haven't done xzorst yet, was talking bout it, i know what setup now, after suspension goes in and get back from holidays, xzorst and otrcai will go in, yeh i was told a similar thing to what brad told you with the oxy sensors, but mine with fuel not exhaust coating as mine started after i switched fuels, went from shell to bp and it started doing it, was told that certain fuels can leave a coating on the oxy sensors and seen as mine have done 166,xxx kays, may have been partly why as i haven't had the calibration done yet and switched straight back to shell, and its slowly been getting better, was 25 then 20 ltrs out, put 30 ltrs in today and my gauge said 5ltrs left, after the 30 ltrs went in it said 40ltrs in the tank, so only 5ltrs now, see what its like when i fill up when i get back from holidays as i'll put a full tank in then, but it gave me bout the right point for 40 ltrs(top half of the half tank mark), got me stumped, possibly the fuel coating the sensors, not sure, see what happens, if anyone else has an idea as to why would greatly appreciate it.
My wagon has a 75 litre tank. I can only use 65 litres and the low fuel warning comes on after about 60 litres used. Reported same to Holden only to be told 'that;s the way it is'. I suspect an engineering 'glitch' that requires 10 litres remain in the tank to ensure fuel pump receives adequate cooling. Therefore I have to cart around 10 litres for which I have no practical use. Good one Holden !!
It's probably a good thing really. You don't want to run these things out of fuel cause in most cases it does the fuel pump in, or so i've been told.
yeh oh well, see how it goes seems to have come good now, monitor it over a couple more tanks, if it becomes worse again i'll go to holden, but has settled down a bit now.
Who did your tune? Mail Order or Dyno tune? Could your trip computer be wrong after the tune?.. i.e. has your actual averaged dropped or increased?
I did the sensors and tested on only half a tank and i think it was a little better but not by much... am not 100% sure. Currently overseas but the missus has the car and if she remembers to write down the info i'll give her a call and tell you in the next day or so. Otherwise when i get back.
I think wagons have only 70 litre tanks, sedans come with the 75 litre tank.
