Hey guys n gals,
I wish to replace my current stock steering wheel on my VY Exec S1 commy. I was thinking of geting a after market Isotta one (legal size) and just hope that I cop doesn't relise that I have removed my safety feature (airbag) Reckon I could get away with this? Any one else done it?
Or I could get a genuine holden one, like off the statesman or calais, or perhaps another model with a nice steering wheel? Any suggestions? Does someone know which ones would be a straight bolt on swap?
Cheers![]()
If you remove the wheel and replace it with a non genuine Holden wheel, it won't comply with the Australian Design Rules that the car had to meet when it was originally built. This will mean that it can't be re-registered in any State.
Keep to a genuine wheel, such as a Statey or whatever other model that fits.
what about a ve wheel? would it be possible to hook this up and keep the stereo controls and airbags?
Get an SS or Clubby wheel.(VY for straight swap) You'll have a decent wheel and you'll get to keep your airbag. If you get an SS wheel, get a series II. Bit cooler!![]()
ok so if I go the VY SS one, can I use my current airbag or?
Also, does someone know the diameter measurements of the SS steering wheel vs the exec?
yes you can use your current airbag, the wheel is only aesthetically changed, the bolt patterns are still exactly the same (Vy that is)
yeh get a vy wheel, and if you put an aftermarket one in and disconected the srs airbag a cop would know as the srs light would be lite up on the dash as that conector is not conected. i'm thinking of replacing my ss wheel with the same genuine one as the leather on mine has become well worn and i'm thinking bout it as a tidy up on the interior.
