V6 is easy. The leads are all numbered if they are still genuine.

Took me about 45 minutes with my LS1. 30 minutes of that were for the back two on drivers side. Did it by feeling my way - couldn't see them.

Nah no room at all. Broke 1 of the old plugs and 1 of the new ones troubleshooting a misfire, which turned out to be a dud new plug. And in the process of changing them over one at a time and starting the car, i burnt myself on the extractors . They get bloody hot after 3 seconds of running the car!

The 6.0L is different, all plugs are very accessible, probably takes about 20 mins to change them. Only because there are less things in the way.

soz for bringing back such an old thread, but i got a v6 3.8L ecotec and I am going to do a full service on it soon got all the things..

I was wondering what sort of socket would I need for the spark plugs havnt had a look yet.. would i need a deep one?

because my old crappy car the Pulsar I had to get a special deep socket to do it.. costed me more that what it would to take it to a pro service.. (i dont trust what they do so id never take it there anyway but just saying :P)

    ps.
i got a fuel filter too whats it lyk replacing that, i hear its quite hard on v6 vt.. need a special tool or something if so where and how much? I live in WA near carousel if curious.. :P

Ecotec V6 - simple, ordinary socket with a short extension is perfect.

I put the in Bosch platinums, 100,000 Km - no wear and they cost a measly $1 (ea) more than normal ones. Worth it IMHO. The car returns high 7's (7.8) average on a 115Km/hr run to Canberra each week. On the flat sections from Sutton Forest to home, I can get 7.0, better if I keep it down to 105!

Getting the leads mixed up is hard to do if you replace one plug at a time. Also, when you put them in, they don't need to be tightened to 150 Foot/Pounds. Just tighten them up by hand until they stop and a little "tweak" with the ratchet is heaps.

To get the fuel filter off, get the Holden "special tool". It costs about $19 and looks like a half of a very short section of plastic pipe. Oddly its is supplied with another which fits (I think) Astras (Euro GM products). Anyway it sits on the fuel filter fittings and they slip right off. Much, much easier than stuffing around with multigrips etc. Make sure you pull the fuel pump fuse and then run the engine until it stalls. This de-pressurises the fuel line so you don't get sprayed when you release the fittings.

No special tool or anything required for changing fuel filter. Jack car up, chuck stands under, squeeze connector, push toward filter and pull out, and repeat for other side. Beware filter will be full of fuel, have container ready. Oh and fuel in eye equal major swear words.

Hey, just wondering, i priced a set of plugs for my ss, and most of the responses are around $230 a set. Does that sound bout right? Seems a bit rude for a set of plugs lol

yeah i did the plugs on my ls1 the other day took about 20 mins, anyone with a decent socet set can do it, the back ones get a little fiddly just use a swivel on your socket. mine were a 19mm socket i used a deep one that always comes in handy. as for prices i bough a full set of 8 ngk irridum plugs off ebay for $95 delivers to my door. i think the sellers name was cars'r'us or something similar, ive had no trobles at all with him, hope that helps you guys (and girls if any are reading)
