    Gents.

Been a while since I joined although I havent done many posts i do read a fair bit... Joined back in 06 when I had my first commodore, '92 VP S1 exec haha.

Anyway, to the point, I picked up my "new" VY SS yesterday (sorry for no pics, my camera died 2 weeks ago!

And I was wondering if there is any way to tell if an edit has been done already? Like what fuel usage should I be seeing around town and on hwy with an edit? I know it has had the exhaust done (twin 2.25 into single 3" with opened up cat) which is why i think possibly an edit may have been done as well.

    Any hints guys?

    Thanks

    Matt.

Thanks. I will see how I go over the course of my first tank and see if my fuel usage tells me anything.

Yep tuned LS1's are good, if you drive them the right way. Mine is edited but i'm not getting that sort of economy. I think something is effecting economy or maybe i don't change gears correctly

Not a huge amount lower as far as I know but there isn't much point in getting a pretty standard V6 tuned. A lot of money for little gain.

My experience with the early (pre-alloytec) 6s is not good, the old VT Berlina (auto) used 14+ litres, and that was regular to and from work driving suburban/hwy/city and then back again.

This is compared to my 5.0l VR (5 spd), on the same trip using between 10 and 12l/100. These figures include a few trips to 5 grand as well.

My LS1 (auto) is currently on 16.4, and thats without any hwy driving at all, so im interesting to see what i get doing the daily commute.

Matt, I notice you have an auto.
Are the gear changes heaps different with the Power button on compared to with it off? I'm talking about the way it changes (not the revs at which it changes at) i.e. are the changes really quick and snappy and put you back in the seat with the power button on? If so, this is a sure sign that it has been tuned. Most tuners like to harden up the gear changes with the power button on, but leave them standard for cruising with the power button off.

Also, does it break traction pretty easily when you just put the foot down off the mark (without stalling it up)? Does it break traction during the shift from 1st to second? This is another sign that it's been tuned, as most tuners remove the torque reduction when they tune them.

Hope that helps, they're a few things I noticed when I got mine tuned.

    Thanks mate, best response yet.

I actually paid attention to power mode this morning on my way to work, and the shifts feel the same as normal mode, and no chirpies either.

Im starting to think that it hasnt been tuned, as well as the above, my economy varies betwen 14.9 and 15.1 on the drive to and from work.

Im happy that it hasnt been tuned, means that I have a chance to get it done and then feel the difference myself, it can only get better from here.

If I get an edit, will this affect the "Holden Certified" Warranty on my car?

It currently has 80k on it, and the warranty is 5 years/175k, and i dont want to void it for obvious reasons!

I have done numerous searches, both here and over at ls1.com.au, and havent been able to find a definitive answer anywhere.

    Cheers.

Wouldn't worry about the warranty. It only covers you for the first $1000 anyway. Also I've had a full MAFless tune and I sure as hell don't get 11L/100KM around town. There are are far too many variables which will affect fuel economy. If you get a tune then expect that kind of economy then you might be pretty disappointed. Also if you're only doing a tune and nothing else, don't expect a huge result.

I'd be more worried about your exhaust voiding the warranty - not the edit.

Though you should be ok with the exhaust - especially if they sold it to you that way.

...The fact is that they can't even tell you've had a tune, so you've got no worries there.

    Thanks mate.

Yeah the exhaust was on it when we bought it. To be honest I am not too fussed over the warranty, but the missus wont let me do anything to void it. Hence my question. Even if its only the first 1k they pay for, "Its still $1000!" she says.

Anyway I think she has given up, coz she says I can get it done now if I want. haha. I might make some calls tomorrow and sus out my local tuners, as well as their pricing and what "extras" they add.

I'm 7.8 on the highway and about 10-12 city driving. 17+ if the missus isn't in the car
