Question What to run with my sub.. 6x9 speakers in parcel shelf or 6" in rear doors?

So atm I have a 12" pioneer sub n amp, 6" sony speakers in the rear doors, 6" sony splits in the front.

I am just about to get a 4 channel amp, but I have been told that the positioning of the rear door speakers is really poor, and positioning them in the parcel shelf will give you a lot better sound. This true?

Most car places say to put 6x9's in there n put a high pass filter on em, but heaps of people on the forums say NEVER to run 6x9's with a sub.

So i need help making a decision on this. N if I stay with my 6" speakers in the rear, should I mount them in the parcel shelf? Is it possible since the cut outs look like they are for 6x9's?

...Dont put 6x9's in the parcel shelf. Wherever you put the rear speakers, just use 6" speakers.

What car places are you going to exactly?

6x9's in the rear parcel shelf is a must along with a 12" sub in the boot. This is the setup i have with front splits too.

All I ask you, is why are 6x9's 'a must', and why choose them over of 6.5"?

yeh if you have 6x9's and a sub, they cancel each other out, the bass from the sub will over power any bass from the 6x9's, there fore better to put 6" or 6.5" in the parcel shelf if you have a sub or 2, i asked a place about this the other day and was told you can get a spacer that sits where your 6x9's were with a 6"-6.5" cut out to suit the different speakers in that area.

You don't need 6x9s if you have a sub. Just go for 6 inch coaxials. Also, yes the parcel shelf is better to mount the speakers because the sound will reflect off the back window and fill the car, giving you a better sound stage. Having them in the doors means the back seat will absorb much of the audio and the passengers feet in the back seat dont want to hear the speakers!

Wow people are still saying yes to 6x9's and others say no. If it helps here are the 6" vs the 6x9s. Either way I have decided to mount them in the parcel shelf so thats one decision gone

    6" 16CM 4-WAY GTX SPEAKER XSGTX1640
    6x9 6 X 9 4-WAY SPEAKERS XSGTX6940S

    Ignore the pricing on em.

ohh n to answer vn2nv, the Westlakes one. Though they always try to push soundstream. They definitely said 6x9 in the parcel shelf with my sub and splits. Getting them via connections at Strathfield.

Not one person running the 6x9's will be able to tell you why though mate. Why run 6x9's over 6.5" with a sub. Theres plenty of reasons NOT to, but nobody has a reason to do it.

Either stick with the 6" you have, or if getting another set of speakers get a decent brand man. Not Sony crap.

I think its Morris at the Motoquipe at West Lakes, not sure why he would suggest 6x9's over 6". Go to the city or sefton plaza store instead. Adrian is normally good to chat to at the sefton store, more interested in helping you out than alot of the others. But for best advice go to a specialty car audio store like GT Auto Sound or Ange's Audio Store. The city store sell MB Quartz as well as the normal motoquipe gear.

Well specs wise the 6x9s will use the power from the amp more efficiently with a 91db rating as opposed to 89db for the 6". That 2db makes a big difference. Of course they do cost more.

reason so many people hammer 6x9's is "oldschool" people always slammed in 6x9's cause they got bass a decade ago. times change now, splits up front, basic rear speakers and a sub or 2 in the boot is more than enough.

also most of the sales dweebs have had no installation experience and haven't even heard all the combination's possible. sounds boards inshop will never give a good comparo when the speakers are put into a car. talk to an installations manager if you can, give them a budget and work from there.

couldn't be bothered reading the thread because im tired, but seriously just get 6" or 6.5"

6x9's are good if you dont have a sub and want some bass..... but if you already have one, there useless to be honest.....

only reason i still have mine is because they have pretty good tweeters on them and midbass is "ok" (there highpassed to about 120hz)
