Talking VY SS or VZ SS?

    Hi guys,

I'm currently looking at purchasing a VY SS or VZ SS and wanted to get your opinions on which one to go for. I'm looking at a budget of 27k. I currently drive a VZ SV6. I'm also quite keen to get a manual. Would rather buy privately too. Any help would be much appreciated

VZ SS has a different front bar, bonnet, side guards and has projector headlights which the VY SS doesn't have. VZ SS also has (i think) a metal indent running down the side of the doors. Also has drive by wire which means when traction control kicks in, the pedal doesn't push back at you like the VY SS pedal. I believe the VZ SS also comes standard with climate control rather than those 3 temperature dials.
Personally it just comes down to what you prefer the look of. Both are nice.

I'm not too sure of the costs now, but if i were you i would try and find a VZ SSZ. You could also look at getting the later model 6.0L VZ SS. Also try and get leather and kilometres under 50k.

Personally I recon the front on the VY looks better than the VZ... but i also recon the SSZ as has been mentioned before is a nice package... Mate of a mate had one and in devil yellow and it looked sick!

MY06 VZ SS for sure, you get the L76 etc, nicer looking car imho. Although You may need to up your budget to around 30k for a top nick one. I was looking at a couple the other day both for 32k, both under 40,000k's.

i reckon his budget is alright. the VY SS you can get below 20k. 15k if youre lucky. i cant imagine a VZ SS being more than 27k. ive even heard you can pickup a VE SS for around 30 now. but yeah, go the VZ. you would probably get more optional extras like climate control with it, and the better engine

The MY06's are usually a jump up fromt he VZ' simply due to having the 6.0 litre. Regardless, if you don't rush you can always pick up some good buys, especially in todays climate of second hand cars.

There wouldn't be much of a power difference between the 5.7 and 6.0 litre.

yeh but the six liter has that much more potential. theres a lot of 6 liters with cam only setups making over 300rwkw. if u want power get the 6 liter.

I'm with you on this. But a VZ SS would have to be better, just for the fact that they're newer and generally have less k's on them. Depends what you're willing to spend I guess.

I hope you're wrong there. That'd mean my car has depreciated by more than two-thirds since I bought it in 2003!

The difference is a baby cam, around 30-40 rwkw unopened.

Nope, he is right lol. Sadly Commodores are becoming worthless.

This is the main reason that I'm seriously considering NOT buying a VE SS for my next car. Even then, why would I bother selling the VY? I may as well keep it garaged, then in about 10 years it'll be worth more than that as a mint condition "grandpa special".

doubt it. if theres nothing special about it compared to other VYs, and commodores, it will just keep dropping. thats like saying a grandpa spec VN SS is worth the same amount it was 10 years ago, when the most youll really get is 8-9k for a really good one.

Go for the VZ 6.0L. It's newer, more powerful and looks better.

Definitely try to get leather and manual though. I don't like SS's without leather and a V8 that isn't manual is just wrong imo.

I stand corrected, thats a fairly big difference! But open them both up, and I guess there wouldn't be much difference.

The difference between the LS1 and the L76 is torque. L76 has more and more of it where you need it, down low. If you're only judging the peak power then there isn't much in it (at least on paper) but drive them back to back and you'll notice it for sure.

Unless you get the 6.0, I wouldn't go to the added expense of a VZ. They cut things out of the VZ to save costs (no glove box light, map pockets are nets instead of fully enlosed etc etc) so I'd stick with the VY if you can only get an LS1.

Hmmm, I know, shame about that.

...But there IS something special about mine compared to other VY's - it's the nicest one on the road!

thanks for the reply guys, yeah have to agree about getting a manual v8, loads more fun. the thing i find frustrating is manuals seem very rare to find. the 6ltr vz ss's are going around 29 to 32 thousand. what are the 6ltr like on fuel?
