Okay well since owning my car (April 2007) we have just put our 3rd set of tyres on. It seems to be wearing out on the inner side of the 2 back tyres. I only got 2 tyres about 4wks ago so they put the new ones on the front and the old ones on the back and already the wire is hanging out of them. We did take it to a place about 2mths ago so they could adjust the cambor rod thingos but it seems to have made it worse. They told us that we should get another 40,000 out of the tyres but nope they only lasted about 2,000kms.
They are 235/40/18s. So, I don't know.
Any ideas would be great thanks.

Get yourself a Camber kit and take it to a reputable place to install it, should solve most of your problems!

Edit: Talk to pedders, I hear they do them for $150 odd.. Don't quote me though..
Through thesame place where we got the rods adjusted we got quoted $500 for the kit. Big difference there.
Yeah if you've got a pedders nearby, call them, another thread quoted them at $120 or something.. I think I have one here.. I dare say it'll be in my brothers car next week though.. My old mans WH grange has one in it too, chewed tyres out bad on the 18's.. dunno why they dont do it from the factory, its shocking..
I think the closest pedders is almost 3hrs away. Thats if theres one in Hervey Bay.

Check here for your nearest.. or try and find another suspension joint, $500 is a bit much..
Thanks for that, Toowoomba is closest. Thanks
I will give them a call after.
Okay well I just called them and they said for the kit is $88 but for them to fit it and front and rear wheel alignment it comes up to $513.
Taddy, for a set of rear tyres to last only 2000kms you got some serious negative camber. Unfortunately I know the feeling. Welcome to the wonderful world of 'commodore independant rear suspension'. There's two types of camber kits. A '2 point' which allows the adjustment of camber or toe depending on where they're installed and a '4 point' which allows adjustment of both camber and toe.
There is no way you will get a camber kit installed for $150. It will cost at least $150 just to buy the kit. Then theres the cost of labour and a wheel alignment when installed. All up you're looking at a minimum of $450 installed. 18' wheels aint cheap and the way your going it will cost you $450 in rear tyres every 2000kms. Don't waste your time with Pedders. Overpriced and too much bull. Just ring around some suspension or tyre joints.

Thanks for that info. I was only trying to find out prices as I have been ripped of with everything else. So, I would rather ring around first.
Thanks though.
what about a VR? i got a bit of camber and may need a kit. 2 point or 4? and how hard are they to install?

I've got a lowered VY without a camber kit and my tyre wear is fine. If you're going through tyres that fast, I don't think your issue will be rectified by simply fitting a camber kit.
My car is also lowered. I have been told its the camber kit. But they are also the ones that told me I should get 40,000kms out of my tyres.
I drive sensibly as I have kids in the car, don't do burnouts or anything like that, soI don't know.
Yeah im just a bit skeptical. Sure the irs causes some uneven wear but to say yours is excessive would be a massive understatement. I think you have a more serious issue. I've done 30,000 on my current tyres (Bridgestone Potenza GIII) and they're wearing quite even with about 50% tread left.
So, what do u think that I should do?
Have you had someone actually physically look at it? Or are you only getting information over the phone and on the net? Take it somewhere and get it looked at if you haven't already. That would be the first step I would be taking.
Yeah I have taken it to a tyre place and they adjusted some rods under it and since doing that I beleive they have made it worst.
They also said that for a camber kit, just the kit would be $500. That is what they suggested.
If what they've done has made it worse then go somewhere else. If they can't get it right the first time, don't give them another chance to **** it up. Hope you get it sorted anyway.
Hey yeah thanks, I am not going back to them. I am hopefully getting new tyres put on it on tuesday so I will see what another tyre joint will say.
I'm in the exact same boat and agree 100%. My VY is lowered (Pedders) with no camber kit and it wears pretty evenly. There's slight extra wear on the insides, but I'll still get over 20,000km out of a pair of tyres.
I think there's something else going on with your car to make it that bad. Take it to someone else - they should be able to use the factory adjustments to eliminate your problem.![]()
Yeah thanks for that.
yeh, mine wore out my inner left rear tyre quick after having an allignment done not long b4 i found out the fronts had only been done, not the rears as well and my left rear alignment was out by a bit, had it done properly while i watched and has been good since, mined you mine only has factory fe2 at the moment, but have been told the vy's are ok they have the correct adjustments at the rear, sounds like they ****ed up the allignment, or you have cleaned up a gutter with the rear, but doubt it would be that or if your car is sitting on ssl springs, but id say they messed up your alignment, also had that on my 4wd chewed out the inners of both front tyres after i put a lift kit in and the tyre joint stuffed it up (unfortunatly its the tyre joint my current work just shifted to) only reason a car will wear them that quick, especially if they were even wear before hand. good luck with it.
Get it put up on a hoist and get a mechanic to have a look at where the diff is bolted to the rear frame . Sometimes these crack and under exceleration the crack opens up causing excesive camber and the tyres to wear. Also get the readout when you get an alignment to see if it is within spec.

Thanks for all the info guys. I have my car booked in on Thursday for 2 new tyres but hes going to have a look at it and tell me what I will need to do.
