Question Can i please have some advice??

    Hello to every1 out there..!

I've just got myself a 2002 model holden vy (i think) commodore. Apparently its an S Specialised (they say it's not an ss??). I would like ta know what engine mods i can do to it, legally lol....

At the moment its a stock standard V6 Supercharged engine, with sports suspension.

I've already got all my interior and exterior worked out, I'd just like some help on the perfomance side:
eg. Exhaust, Extractors, Air Intake, etc??

Basically i want it to have as much low to mid range torque/power, but also to be good on fuel.

I was told to get get a Pod Filter for the supercharger, a 2.5 inche exhaust all the way through and a good set of extractors, but i don't know anything about brands or anything like that...

Also in the future I would like to convert the gearbox from and Automatic to a Manual. But i don't know exactly where to go to get one of those manufactured... And i want it cheap but awesome quality.. (short shift sports gearbox??)

Any help would be massively appreciated... Thanks

oh yeh if you get a pod filter make sure you get a heat sheild to put over it covering the engine side of the filter to minimise heat absorption from the filter due to the hot engine bay tempratures, which can rob your car off hp, hop that helps a bit too, k+n are a good brand for pod filters and air filters, can get them from repco, auto bahn, bursons, etc.

He said legal, oil filters = illegal, pods = illegal.

Don't waste your time on pod filters. They don't add anything to performance and are really just a wank factor. If you want a K&N just get a replacement panel filter to fit the box but I just run a standard paper filter in mine. The amount of work you do depends entirely on your budget. Your first step is to replace you supercharger pulley with a smaller one. The standard one is a 95mm and gives you about 6psi of stock boost. Got for an 86mm and that will give you about 10psi without needing a tune. Next step for the L67 motor is Yella terra roller rockers. 1.9/1.95 split ratio to be exact. The L67 loves the split ratio. Next step is a good exhaust to get all these extra gases out. Don't just go cat back. That won't really improve performance. You want extractors, twin cats, then a twin 2.25" or no bigger than 2.5 exhaust into a single pipe at the back. A full system can set you back as much a $1800. Do those things and you'll keep up with most V8's. You've also got other options like intercooling and changing diff gears but that just becomes too much hassle.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

Plenty of people helping you out with the other mods, but nobody has mentioned this one.

Basically, the gearbox conversion can be done by buying all the parts from a manual car of the same model as yours that you need, either 2nd hand from wreckers or new from Holden. Then you can just remove your automatic stuff and swap it over.

Sounds simple huh? It isn't. There's a long list of expensive parts you need, and the manual labour required is pretty extensive too. Because everything is electronically controlled, there's a lot of wiring to be done too, and from memory you need to change the car's computer too. The bottom line is while the conversion is possible, it's very rare because of the expense. If you want a manual car, it's much simpler and cheaper to sell the car you have and buy a manual one.

You can make your auto gearbox shift harder though, so don't despair. A shift kit will jazz up the slushbox nicely.

    alright thanks guys...

about all the SC mods... its not exactly legal or whatever for me to drive it with SC in it at the moment as I'm still only on my NSW P's. ha.

    extractors and exhaust system....:
can i please have brands and rough prices on these products? (can i have like the best one and price and the cheapest but still real decent please?)
i'm going to learn to fit all this by myself, as i have the facilities.

and i'm not going to worry about the filter or nothing, unless it's really that noticeable.

Also is there any other perfomance upgrades or changes i can do to make it even more of a power house?

    Thanks,

Go for either Pacemaker or HM headers for your extractors. Both very good brands and are preferred by most people on the forum.

Go for the High ratio rockers for sure. They are one of the best bang for your buck mods.

Okay i i done some squizzin on the net for headers/extractors.

    I went to HM Headers

these are the following "setups"(????) that matched my car.
(car is a 2002 vx 3.8 Ltr Supercharged Commodore)

    HM77SS
    HM8CHSS
    HM8SS
    HM8TCSS
    HM99SS
    HM99TCSS

i dont know what the difference is between any of them, so if a guide of direction can be done???

also on this site it had cats and exhaust...

Do you reckon some one could suggest a good setup? (i'd like a 2.25" exhuast??)

    cheers to all!!!

Extractors and zorst is about it. Everything else (performance wise) stops been legal very quickly

You don't want much do you? Got some bad news - unless you know people or are good at metal fabrication (if you have to ask these questions then I guess you aren't) then cheap and awesome quality don't go in the same sentence.

That said, there shouldn't be much involved in bolting a 5 slotter behind your motor. Will need a ecu change but the moment you touch that it stops being legal again.

I just had a look on the HM website and the answers you seek are clearly listed in the description of each product. Did you do a product search based on your vehicle of just look at everything. I relation to your other question there isn't one 'best brand' each one is different and offers differences in specifications etc. You've got Pacemaker, HM, Hurricane, Genie, Lukey, Advance. Should I go on?

It wouldn't hurt to email them and ask them or make a post in the Yella Terra sponsors section.

I do have one good question for you though. How do you plan on getting insurance for this modified s/c commodore? Insurance companies charge a massive premium for stock standard s/c commies let alone highly modified ones driven by people under 25.
