so you've got the pipe which goes from the rack to the pump? and runs across the bar behind the bottom of the thermo fans?
May be air in the power steering fluid, is the fluid level ok? Bubbles in the oil? Is the pump noisy?
mate to be truthful i didn't even know what pipe was replaced
pumps not noisy and fluid is new
as far as i know the mech bleed the line but just in case how is it done
oh and thanks for replying
cheers
shano
mines ****ed as well at it was supposdly fixed by holden as was another 2 ppl i know apparently it just happens again after a while
There isn't any specific way to bleed the system, if its not noisey then it shouldn't need bleeding, if the fluid was pink and had lots of little bubbles in then it'd need doing.
Here's a pic of where the hose sits behind the fans, the hose then runs under the oil filter towards the rack.
The hose basically changes the line pressure to the rack to prevent the shuddering when stationary or at slow speeds.
after looking @ mine there is no pipe there that you have in your picture
so only god knows what pipe they replaed then!
They obviously didn't fit a steering shudder hose kit.
The vy's did have a recall on the power steering cooler hoses as they wouldn't stop leaking due to the crappy clamps the factory used, maybe they did that?
all problem fixed new pipe was fitted and now its quiet as
i found the part No. on the phenix mechanical web site ......
its real bad when i have to search for things and instruct a mechanic on how to fix it....

Power Steering Shudder (V6) - Some VY's may shudder through the steering wheel during very low speed or
stationary steering is performed. To help overcome this, a longer high pressure power steering line was introduced. The original line ran directly from the power steering rack to the power steering pump. The new longer line runs from the power steering rack, is routed and secured in front of the engine, and then continues back to the power steering pump.

Great! I'm gonna give this info to my mechanic when I see him.
